Belmont Cameli joins Sydney Sweeney in Lindsey Anderson Beer’s Sleepy Hollow reimagining

Sydney Sweeney has found her Brom Bones. Belmont Cameli, who recently starred in Prime Video’s Off Campus, has joined Sweeney in Sony Pictures’ upcoming Sleepy Hollow reimagining Hollow, according to Deadline.

Cameli will play Brom Bones in the film, which is based on filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer’s forthcoming novel Hollow. Beer is writing and directing the movie, while LuckyChap, Beer’s Lab Brew banner, and Sweeney’s Honey Trap banner are producing.

The movie still needs to find its Ichabod Crane, but the casting of Cameli means two corners of the story’s central supernatural love triangle are now in place. Sweeney is set to portray Katrina Van Tassel.

Belmont Cameli Joins Sydney Sweeney in Hollow

Cameli is coming off his breakout role in the Prime Video series Off Campus, which Deadline reports drew 36 million viewers in its first 12 days of streaming. His recent film credits also include Until Dawn and The Alto Knights.

Sweeney most recently starred opposite Amanda Seyfried in The Housemaid, the Lionsgate adaptation that became a major box office success and led to an upcoming sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret. She also stars in Christy, playing boxer Christy Martin in the David Michôd-directed film, which Sweeney also produced.

What Is This Sleepy Hollow Reimagining About?

Hollow originated as filmmaker Lindsey Anderson Beer’s attempt to bring a new perspective to Washington Irving’s classic 1820 short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. We’ve known for several years that Beer intended to make a feature film based on the story. When the movie was taking longer than expected to get into production, Beer turned her idea into a novel, which she sold to Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House. The novel is scheduled to be published in fall 2027.

Beer’s Hollow is told from the perspective of Katrina Van Tassel. Rather than treating Van Tassel as the romantic prize in the story, the novel makes her the central figure in a dangerous mystery and seductive supernatural love triangle. The story blends gothic atmosphere, psychological intrigue, and erotic thriller elements into a contemporary, high-concept reinvention of the classic tale.

Sony Is Behind the New Sleepy Hollow Movie

The novel helped put the feature adaptation on the fast track. Deadline previously reported that Sony Pictures came in quickly to acquire the project in a competitive situation, with the studio moving to assemble the cast around Sweeney.

Hollow will be the first film produced by Sweeney’s Honey Trap banner.

Lindsey Anderson Beer Returns to the Director’s Chair

Beer previously made her feature directorial debut with Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, the Stephen King adaptation that premiered at Fantastic Fest and broke Paramount+ viewership records. She also wrote and executive produced the Cyrano de Bergerac-inspired Netflix movie Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, which debuted at No. 1 globally and spawned the chart-topping original song “Sunflower,” which Beer co-wrote.

Now, Beer is returning to the horror genre with a new take on one of the most famous supernatural stories in American literature. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has already been adapted numerous times, including Disney’s classic animated film, the Fox television series Sleepy Hollow, and Tim Burton’s 1999 movie Sleepy Hollow. Beer’s Hollow intends to approach the material from a very different perspective.
