You Season 4: Netflix hit returns this winter

you season 4

One of Netflix’s most popular shows is returning to the service earlier than expected. Fans of Netflix’s You were in for a Thanksgiving treat when the service announced that the Penn Badgley hit will return on February 9th, a day earlier than the previously announced date. The caveat is that the fourth season will not be released all at once, with the service continuing to experiment with staggered release dates. The first part of the season will premiere on the ninth, while the second half is set to make its Netflix bow exactly one month later, on March 9th. No news on how many episodes will be in each part.

This season sends Badgley’s psycho stalker to England, with the official synopsis revealing:

After his previous life went up in flames, Joe Goldberg has fled to Europe to escape his “messy” past, adopt a new identity, and, of course, to pursue true love. But Joe soon finds himself in the strange new role of reluctant detective as he discovers he may not be the only killer in London. Now, his future depends on identifying and stopping whoever’s targeting his new friend group of uber-wealthy socialites…

In addition to Badgley, the new season features the return of Uncharted‘s Tati Gabrielle, while Charlotte Ritchie, Ed Speelers and more join the cast.

Confession time – I’ve never once seen an episode of You, but I understand it’s become something of a cult phenomenon, which is interesting as it began life as a Lifetime series. It made very little impact there but became a phenomenon when it hit Netflix, which is where it’s run ever since. The staggered release of the season is interesting, as my understanding is that the show never really caught on until people could binge it, so it seems like a bit of a risky strategy.

You has become a runaway hit for the service, with the show regularly topping the Netflix Top 10 charts, with the premiere of the third season notably bumping Squid Game from the top spot back in October 2021. While no season rank in the most-watched shows of all-time list, it’s possible this fourth season just might do the trick.
