Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.
This week’s Friday Fright Nights feature is the abduction horror thriller Like Dogs – which may sound familiar, since we have previously shared it as a Free Movie of the Day. We had to take it down for a while due to YouTube issues, but now it’s back! This one is about people being abducted and chained up for a behavioral experiment where they’re treated like dogs… and if you’re like me, the idea of watching people being chained up for 90+ minutes doesn’t sound very enticing. I’m not really into torture movies. Thankfully, writer/director Randy Van Dyke was able to take the concept of Like Dogs and turn it into something that is actually interesting and engaging, with some unexpected twists and turns. This one is definitely worth checking out.
Annabel Barrett turns in an awesome performance as the lead character Lisa, whose abduction is shown in the opening moments. Barrett has acting credits going back several years, but this is the first time I have actually seen anything she has been in. I’m left hoping to see a lot more Annabel Barrett movies in the future.
Like Dogs has the following synopsis:
A behavioral experiment treating humans like animals goes awry when a university student manipulates the research with deadly results.
In addition to Annabel Barrett, the film stars Ignacyo Matynia, Ryan Q. Tran, Shay Denison, Katy Dore, Nicole Bleacher, Clay Coleman-Davis, Alan Maxson, Chris Calabrese, Dustin Miller, Juan Manuel Cabral, Jack Lewis Acebedo, Justin Armao, Juliet Bato, Xavi Casanova, Edmund Arellano Cleofe, Matt Davies-Morris, Michael Deschaine, Nick Deverian, Bryan Scott Ewing, John Connor Fitzgerald, David Fabian Gutierrez, John Lam, Josh Maslaki, Jeremiah McKibbins, Malachite Obsidian Perry, Skip Rocks, Sina Siassi, Donavyn Suffel, Connor Vera, Dave Vera, and Anthony Wells.
Randy Van Dyke has primarily directed short films and music videos, but Like Dogs is his third feature. His first was the 2006 comedy Pink Lemonade (a.k.a. Any Night But Tonight), and the second was the 2016 comedy Non-Stop to Comic-Con, which he co-directed with David Edmundson. He has also worked as cinematographer and visual effects artist on the likes of Bloodsucka Jones vs. The Creeping Death and the upcoming movie Xanadu Hellfire.
