Friday Fright Nights: Watch horror anthology 10/31 Part 2 here!

Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.

This week’s Friday Fright Nights feature is a sequel to a film we’ve previously shared as a Free Movie of the Day, the horror anthology film 10/31. This one is quite fittingly called 10/31 Part 2! It consists of story segments that were directed by Brett DeJager, Max Groah, John Hale III, Zane Hershberger, Robert Lanphere, Drew Marvick, Jennifer Nangle, Tory van Buskirk, and Stephen Wolfe. Groah, Hale, Hersherberger, Marvick, Nangle, and van Buskirk also have writing credits on the film, as do Mike McPherson, A.D. Miles, and Vincent J. Restivo. Here’s the synopsis:

Join horror host Malvolia the Queen of Screams as she celebrates this years Halloween Monster Marathon with 5 new tales of terror and the macabre. This Halloween horror anthology from independent horrors best and bloodiest directors is a grab bag of treats you are sure to enjoy.

As mentioned in the synopsis, the anthology is hosted by Malvolia, the Queen of Screams… and this is a case where an anthology actually left me wanting to see more of its host. Malvolia only appears in the movie for bookend scenes, giving an intro close to the start of the film (there are a few faux trailers to watch before the anthology really gets rolling), then bidding the viewer adieu at the end. As the story segments play out, 10/31 Part 2 just cuts from the end of one to the start of the next. I would have liked it even better if Malvolia had introduced each segment, sort of like The Creep in Creepshow 2. But I understand that few films can reach the heights of Creepshow 2. Luckily, Malvolia has her own YouTube channel, so there is more content with the character to be seen outside of the 10/31 movies.

Like any anthology, 10/31 Part 2 has its ups and downs, with segments that are more appealing than others. But there are a good variety of stories in this movie, so if you don’t like one segment there’s a good chance you’ll like another. My personal favorites were the ones that lean into the slasher sub-genre, one that was inspired by the “ancient burial ground” cliché and another that features a character that comes off like a mixture of Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers, sporting a mask that’s reminiscent of the one seen on the Friday the 13th: A New Beginning VHS cover.
