A full Free Movie of the Day is posted on the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel every day of the week – but on Fridays things get a little freakier and a little more fun. Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.
This week’s Friday Fright Nights feature is the 2019 horror anthology Dark Chronicles, which is actually a feature compilation of the short films that were made for the web series of the same title. Watching a horror anthology can be a great way to spend an evening during the Halloween season – and it can be quite a rollercoaster ride. Not just because of the scares and thrills the movie throws at you, but also due to the fact that the segments in an anthology often vary in quality.
It’s to be expected: when a movie has several different kind of horror stories in it, some of those stories are going to be more appealing to each individual viewer than other stories are. And some stories are told better than others. But the good thing about the ups and downs of anthologies is, when one segment isn’t working for you, all you have to do is wait for the next one to come along and hope that it will be better. Unless the one you’re not enjoying is the last segment of the movie. In that case, hopefully you at least liked some of the stories that came before it.
Of course, if you take a chance on Dark Chronicles, maybe you’ll find that you like every single one of the segments.
Written and directed by Christopher M. Carter, Jessica Morgan, and Dustin Rieffer, Dark Chronicles has the following synopsis:
A keeper tells four dark stories: a priest exorcising a demon, friends unleashing evil, survivors facing their fears and a deadly standoff.
The film stars Steve McKee, Katy Mahard, Jessica Morgan, Christie Newby, Aeric Azana, Jim Cirner, Brittany Isabell, Joe Heck, Adam Mendez Jr., Ashton Jordann Ruiz, Avalon Kerr, Jesse Pickering, Michaela Ivey, Kara Quinn Ward-Tobin, Christopher Karbo, Aryeh Krause-Nadler, Rudolph Alvarado, Sammy Orzech, Kindryn Durantt, John Noble, and Daniela Santi.
Before working on Dark Chronicles, Carter, Morgan, and Rieffer also collaborated on the 2017 film One Night in October, which was written and directed by Carter, with Morgan serving as executive producer and taking on an acting role, and Rieffer serving as associate producer. They have gone on to produce the 2021 series Omega together. Carter and Morgan also co-directed the 2016 film Overwatch.
So take a look at Dark Chronicles – after all, it’s free! – and let us know what you thought of it by leaving a comment below or on the YouTube page.
