DC Just Confirmed a Major Batman Villain's Death in Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad confirms that a major Batman villain is dead.

Two Suicide Squads, the Titans and the Crime Syndicate all went head-to-head in DC Comics' War for Earth-3 crossover, which saw Amanda Waller take control of Earth-3. One of the casualties of the event was William Cobb aka Talon, who was killed when Waller detonated the explosive implanted in his head, though he appeared later as a ghost. A preview for the upcoming Suicide Squad #14 shows his spirit fading away, indicating that his life in the DC Universe is officially over.

Batman: The Court of Owls is regarded as one of the best Batman stories by fans and even stars of The Batman (2022). The story introduced Talon as a servant of the Court of Owls when he first appeared in Batman #2 from 2011. He was later identified as William Cobb -- Dick Grayson/Nightwing's great-grandfather -- in Batman #7, and was able to live as long as he had due to the Court's methodology of reanimating the dead with electrum.

It is unclear if Talon's history of reanimation with the Court of Owls and the fact that he was already dead once are why his soul dissipated. After all, Suicide Squad member Culebra has been a ghost for some time now and does not fade away in the preview (though her soul was taken out of Hell by the Squad). She was only able to return to her body through the use of Lazarus Resin, another compound capable of reanimating the dead, though the user requires frequent doses since the effects wear off.

Talon and Culebra became friends during their time on the Suicide Squad together. Before bidding her farewell in the preview, Talon asks Rick Flag to help Culebra get her body back, though it was last seen on Earth-3 prior to Waller teleporting the world to somewhere in the Multiverse. Beforehand, Waller sent Flag and his Squad back to Belle Reve Prison on Earth-0, though she seemingly put "The Waller Contingency" into effect, which causes the destruction of Belle Reve in the preview.
