The asking price for the Grand Inquisitor's comic book debut shoots upward following the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer's release.
Listings on eBay for Darth Vader #6 (2017) have risen to as high as $600 for a high-grade copy from some sellers. Written by Charles Soule with art by Giuseppe Camuncoli, the issue features the Grand Inquisitor's first appearance in Star Wars comics, as well as a fight between the Jedi hunter and Vader. Now that the Grand Inquisitor will soon make his live-action debut in Obi-Wan Kenobi, it seems the value of the book is going up in the minds of collectors.
The first trailer for the new limited series shows star Ewan McGregor putting on his robes again to portray Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. While a new altercation with his former student and friend Anakin Skywalker -- now Darth Vader -- is promised, the trailer also shows that the Inquisitors will be involved in the story, fulfilling their purposes of hunting down Jedi survivors. The Grand Inquisitor will be played by Homeland's Rupert Friend and the trailer shows off his spinning Inquisitorius lightsaber, marking the first time this type of Sith weapon appears in live-action.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will not be the first time the Grand Inquisitor appears onscreen though. Prior to Darth Vader #6, the Inquisitor debuted in the one-hour premiere of Star Wars Rebels in 2014. He is a main antagonist of the animated show's first season, until he dies in the Season 1 finale following a duel with Jedi Kanan Jarrus. A main cause of his death is implied to be the Inquisitor's fear of failing Darth Vader.
A photo released following the new trailer gives fans their first look at actor Hayden Christensen's return as Darth Vader. Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to take place 10 years after Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, which showcased Anakin Skywalker's turn to the Dark Side and defeat at Kenobi's hand. The upcoming Disney+ series promises that fans will see a rematch between the two, set before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.
The last time Vader was seen in live-action was during 2016's Rogue One, which included a brutal hallway fight scene between the Sith Lord and some unfortunate Rebels. Christensen revealed in an interview that he was not ask to reprise his role then, but said that he "loved what they did with it." For the first time since Revenge of the Sith (aside from a voice cameo in Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker in 2019), Christensen returns to the franchise in live-action.
