Mad Cave Studios' newest fantasy series asks: What happens when a bored potion seller finally gets the chance to embark on the quest of a lifetime?
CBR can reveal a preview of Potions Inc., an upcoming new adult series written by Erik Burnham, illustrated by artist Stelladia and lettered by Micah Myers. Potions Inc. stars Randelgast "Ran" Jones, who resides in the fantastical realm of Primaterra, works in his family's successful potion shop and leads an aimless existence -- until one fateful day.
Mad Cave Studios' synopsis of the series reads, "When an important artifact is stolen from Ran and his family in Primaterra, he and his siblings must follow it to a dangerous, foreign land -- Seattle, Washington!"
Primaterra, described as a land with tiny dragons instead of birds and "so much magic that nothing is ordinary," also seems to be a realm featured in children's bedtime stories on Earth. Issue #1 hints at a mage named Kanavin Goras who appears to be the antagonist of the series. Kanavin searched for methods to grow more magic in Primaterra and developed a dangerous scheme that was ultimately stopped by his disciples, who sealed him away.
Aside from penning Potions Inc., Burnham is best known for his work on IDW's Ghostbusters comics, including 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters crossover as well as its 2017 sequel. He also wrote 2020's Red Sonja: Age of Chaos for Dynamite Entertainment and the Marvel Action: Spider-Man series for young readers. Stelladia's works include the 2017 Vault Comics series Colossi as well as the 2019 ComiXology Unlimited series Teenage Wasteland.
Potions Inc. #1 goes on sale June 8 from Mad Cave Studios and features a cover by Natasha Alterici.
