10 Times Tanjiro Stole The Spotlight In Demon Slayer | CBR

As the protagonist of Demon Slayer, Tanjiro Kamado has had numerous stand-out moments that shocked the audience and solidified his strength. During the series, there were several moments where Tanjiro's courage shined through. Though Tanjiro still adheres to many of the typical traits found among other shonen protagonists, his level of compassion, honesty, and courage go beyond most of his counterparts.

Though the job of a protagonist is to be in the spotlight, there were several occasions during Demon Slayer when Tanjiro outshined side characters with the flashiest of personalities, such as Inosuke or Tengen. Ultimately, Tanjiro stole the spotlight during these moments.

10 Tanjiro Respected The Value Of Kyogai's Blood Demon Art

At the end of Tanjiro's battle against Kyogai in the Tsuzumi Mansion, Tanjiro brought the Lower Rank demon to tears. Kyogai was one of the most formidable demons that Tanjiro had faced at that point, so his powers and abilities were beyond anything he had experienced before.

When Tanjiro decapitated Kyogai, he complimented his Blood Demon Art. Kyogai couldn't believe that a Demon Slayer realized the value of the hard work he put into crafting his Blood Demon Art. As a result, Kyogai faded away with tears coming down his face. This moment proved Tanjiro's compassion and respect for his opponents.

9 Tanjiro's Compassion For The Hand Demon Was Surprising

During the Final Selection, Tanjiro had to fight against the Hand Demon. The Hand Demon revealed that Sakonji trapped and isolated him on a mountain for 47 years. The Hand Demon opted to avenge himself and the lost time by targeting each of Urokodaki's children.

When the Hand Demon was decapitated, he was confused about why Tanjiro looked sad despite winning against him. Tanjiro was able to pick up on the scent of sadness and prayed that the man wouldn't become a demon again once he gets reincarnated. He held on to one of the demon's hands while he faded into oblivion. Tanjiro seems to have a knack for reminding demons that they, too, were once human.

8 Tanjiro's Eyes Bled From Rage

During Tanjiro's fight against Daki, he was seething with rage. He managed to build up so much anger that his eyes started to bleed profusely. When he realized that the nearby civilians were becoming collateral damage, he was enraged. Tanjiro's rage was further cemented when Daki was irritated by a civilian who complained that the fight disrupted their sleep. In response, Daki swiftly killed numerous civilians in retaliation.

Tanjiro had always been upset by how reckless demons could be, but Daki especially enraged him because of the sheer scale of her destruction. It almost seemed like a game to her, which is what angered him. Furthermore, Tanjiro began crying blood when he remembered Shinjuro's letter.

7 Tanjiro Headbutted Inosuke So Hard It Knocked Him Out

Though Inosuke and Tanjiro became close friends, they literally butted heads when they first met after the Tsuzumi Mansion Arc. Zenitsu was guarding the box in which Nezuko resides to protect it from Inosuke. Tanjiro immediately jumped in and kicked Inosuke so hard, Zenitsu heard the sound of bones breaking.

This didn't faze Inosuke, though — he jumped right back up and kept provoking Tanjiro into a fistfight. Tanjiro's attempts at de-escalation didn't work out, so he proceeded to headbutt into Inosuke hard enough to make his mask fall off — then he passed out within a few moments.

6 Tanjiro's Speech At The End Of The Mugen Train Arc Was Powerful

At the end of the Mugen Train Arc, Tanjiro had a few choice words for Akaza. After giving Rengoku a fatal injury, Akaza fled into the forest because the sun had come up. Tanjiro angrily yelled at Akaza as he ran away, calling him a coward. With tears in his eyes, he kept reiterating that the Demon Slayer Corps fights the demons in the dark, where they're the strongest. He also stated that humans' wounds don't close up easily, so they don't have the demons' luxury of regenerating lost limbs.

The most pivotal moment of Tanjiro's speech was when he kept yelling that Rengoku never ran away from a fight and never let anybody die, but Akaza ran away like a coward because of the sunlight. Therefore, Rengoku won the fight, but Akaza lost.

5 Tanjiro's Fight Against Daki Proved Hinokami Kagura's Versatility

Before Nezuko got involved, Tanjiro was doing an excellent job holding his own against the Upper Rank Six demon, Daki. During this fight, Tanjiro concluded that he wasn't suited for Water Breathing and reasoned that using the Hinokami Kagura was better. The fight proved that Tanjiro improved significantly since the first time he used the technique and now it's his main Breathing Style.

Hinokami Kagura is surprisingly versatile and there are many moves Tanjiro can release. The most shocking was his Fake Rainbow move; he used it to distract Daki with an afterimage so he could try decapitating her from behind.

4 Tanjiro Was Determined To Stay Awake

During the Mugen Train arc, Enmu used his Blood Demon Art to make all of the passengers on the train fall asleep. He tasked four insomniacs with entering the Demon Slayers' dreamscapes and destroying their spiritual cores so they would fall into an eternal sleep. Though their dreams were good ones, Tanjiro realized it was all a dream.

When Tanjiro realized what he needed to do to wake up, he did it and immediately ran in to fight against Enmu. During the fight, Enmu kept making Tanjiro fall asleep. As long as he was aware of what was going on, Tanjiro could swiftly kill himself in the dream, wake up again, and keep fighting. This cycle continued for a bit — Tanjiro was determined to stay awake so he could defeat Enmu.

3 Tanjiro's Final Moments Fighting Against Gyutaro Were Pivotal

As a result of the Demon Slayers' fight against the Gyutaro and Daki, the entire Entertainment District was destroyed. The final moments of the fight where Tanjiro took Gyutaro head-on were pivotal. Gyutaro kept insulting him and trying to make him feel even worse about the aftermath. He kept taunting Tanjiro by calling him and the other Demon Slayers weak and disgraceful.

Eventually, Tanjiro headbutted Gyutaro and stabbed him with a Kunai to paralyze him. Because of Tanjiro's quick thinking, he was able to work with Inosuke and Zenitsu to decapitate the two Upper-Rank demons.

2 Tanjiro Slicing The Boulder Was A Crucial Moment

The very last test of the Final Selection was for a prospective Demon Slayer to slice a giant boulder with his sword. The ghosts of Sabito and Makomo taught Tanjiro how to master Water Breathing and with their teachings he succeeded in cutting the boulder.

The boulder had symbolic meaning in numerous ways. It was a physical manifestation of Sabito. Upon Tanjiro slicing the boulder, Sabito could now rest in peace. Furthermore, cutting the boulder showed Tanjiro's willpower and desire to help others, even in the most unexpected ways.

1 Hinokami Kagura Awakened During A Life-Or-Death Situation

After Rui almost killed Tanjiro, he recalled his father teaching him a flame dance called Hinokami Kagura. Tanjiro woke up, and his new technique was awakened with him. The Hinokami Kagura quickly overpowered Rui in a striking, vivid display of flames.

Though Tanjiro successfully defeated Rui with this new technique, it put quite a strain on his body. Releasing the Hinokami Kagura was stronger than any other technique he had used. Therefore, he initially only opted to use it as a last resort. However, after intense training, Tanjiro found that his body was more suited to unleashing the Hinokami Kagura than it was Water Breathing.
