Zack Snyder's Justice League Fans Push for Army of the Dead Oscar

Zack Snyder's Justice League was deemed ineligible for an Oscar nomination, but that hasn't stopped fans from demanding an Academy Award for Snyder and his work. This time, fans are pushing for a nomination for Army of the Dead.

All over social media, fans have pushed for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to recognize Army of the Dead as a contender, with many hinting that the movement is to show support for Snyder and his work rather than enthusiasm for Army of the Dead itself. This comes in response to the Academy inviting Twitter users to vote for nominees in a special category.

When the Academy announced the Fan-Favorite category, the hashtag #OscarsFanFavorite began trending. Users posted shots of Zack Snyder's Justice League and urged fellow fans to join the social media campaign. However, it was later pointed out that, as per the Academy's rules, the 2021 film was ineligible for nomination, owing to the fact that it was a director's cut of the 2017 theatrically released film.

Snyder's work has enjoyed a vocal and passionate fanbase, which has led to major successes for his projects, including the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League on HBO Max. Following the film's release in theaters, fans spent years demanding Warner Bros. to allow Snyder to complete his version of the film, with some of the film's stars joining in on what became known as the #ReleasetheSnyderCut movement. This was partly fuelled by Snyder and the cast confirming that his version was already near filmed and only needed visual effects work to be completed.

Eventually, HBO Max provided Snyder with a budget to complete  Zack Snyder's Justice League. The film was released on the streaming service as a four-hour-long feature film that included a number of entirely new scenes, plotlines and characters. For this reason, despite the film's length, Zack Snyder's Justice League received praise from both critics and audiences. It even led to the ongoing #RestoretheSnyderVerse campaign, which is comprised of fans calling for Warner Bros. to reinstate Snyder as the creative head of the DC Extended Universe-- a franchise that has already been taken in new directions thanks to Aquaman, Wonder Woman 1984 and more.

Army of the Dead was also released in 2021 in theaters and on Netflix. The film follows mercenary group who plan a heist during a zombie apocalypse. The film received generally positive reviews and grossed $1 million at the box office. However, it should be noted that its performance was greatly impacted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
