Wonder Egg Priority: 10 Mysteries That Still Need To Be Resolved In Season 2

Many viewers tuned into Wonder Egg Priority in 2021 and were immediately hooked. Wonder Egg Priority is a story about Ai Ohto, a self-described shut-in who hasn't been to school since her best friend's suicide, and the three other magical girls she meets along the way – Rika Kawai, Momoe Sawaki, and Neiru Aonuma. Together they fight to save people released from wonder eggs – tackling topics of suicide, bullying, and abandonment. With its bright and zany visuals juxtaposing its darker subject matter, it quickly became a hit.

However, the season finale left more loose ends than resolutions, leaving fans dissatisfied. After a successful first season, Wonder Egg Priority should focus on securing a second season that both answers fans' burning questions, and restores faith in this unique series.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead! This article also contains mentions of triggering topics such as suicide, bullying, violence, rape, and abuse.

10 The Whereabouts Of Frill

The last time audiences see antagonist Frill before the finale, Ura-Acca is incinerating her body to ensure she doesn't harm anyone else after killing Himari. However, Acca and Ura-Acca are aware Frill's influence can still be felt after her destruction, and she has embodied the temptation of death.

Frill still must exist somewhere though, even if it's in the ether, and this will likely be the first thing that needs to be solved if Ai and her friends ever hope to stop her.

9 The Circumstances Around Koito's Suicide

Sadly, Wonder Egg Priority's special episode complicates an already delicate subject, Koito Nagase's suicide. It was shrouded in mystery the entire first season, and the revelations viewers received in the special episode finale left a sour taste in people's mouths.

According to the show, Koito was responsible for the termination of a male teacher at her last school due to rape allegations. When she tries to do the same to Sawaki and he rejects her, she commits suicide. When he's recounting the events, he says Koito slipped and fell while on the roof when nobody was watching, but it'd be impossible for him to know that if nobody saw. To make a vulnerable girl the villain in this situation would be a big mistake, and Koito's arc will stay muddied forever if another season isn't made to clear things up.

8 The Making Of The Wonder Eggs

The obvious question for viewers is "how are the eggs made?" In episode 1, the audience is shown that the eggs are in some form of mass-production, with Ai walking past several of them in a room at the start of her journey.

Logic would dictate Acca and Ura-Acca are creating them, but the audience is never shown how. They made themselves new bodies to transfer their consciousness into so they could've used the same kind of method. With Neiru's reveal, there's also a chance that artificial intelligence plays a part in the eggs, but there's still not enough information on their creation.

7 Dot, Hyphen, and Kirara's Strange Existence

Dot, Hyphen, and Kirara were created by Frill before she was incinerated, but there is no information on how they still exist. They're loyal to her, but whether that was programmed or formed is unknown. Almost everything about these incredibly creepy villains is a mystery.

Kirara's full name is Kirara Rodriguez Matured XVIII Evening Star SS Plum. While Dot and Hyphen keep the technology theme, audiences are not told why Kirara has such an odd name. Combined with the fact she's the one who faces off with protagonist Ai, it might indicate she's the strongest.

6 The Wellbeing Of The Egg Inhabitants

Wonder Egg Priority was popular because of its main and supporting cast. Each episode often featured a new person who'd committed suicide, and needed to be saved.

Fan favorite Kaoru Kurita gained the audience's attention due to his identity as a transgender male. Although representation is improving in anime, characters like Kaoru are still rare. Kaoru and the girls saved by Ai and her friends, could certainly find a place in the story if they were to be revived. It's already happened to some of the characters, so it's possible it could be extended to egg inhabitants too.

5 Mannen And Panic's Fates

Viewers were horrified when two of the Wonder Animals, Mannen and Panic, were brutally killed by Dot and Hyphen. There was no warning to these savage scenes and it was difficult to watch when these creatures, who had sometimes been the girls' only source of comfort, were suddenly gone.

With all the reviving that happened in the finale, there's room for Mannen and Panic to return. While not a top priority, it'd be a boost to viewer morale if the convoluted story meant there was space for the beloved overgrown crocodile and tortoise to return.

4 The Specifics Of How Frill Killed Himari

Frill's motives for driving Acca's daughter to suicide were clear. She was jealous that both of her father figures had focused their attention on Himari instead, and she felt resentment for being locked up. Even though she also murdered Himari's mother, Frill didn't see her actions as wrong and therefore failed to understand her cruel punishment.

But viewers don't know if Frill speaks to her victims, somehow appears to them in a physical form, or attacks them mentally. To comment on modern-day society, Wonder Egg Priority could say Frill uses her identity as an A.I to torment girls online, but the specifics are still unknown. Himari is an interesting case because she seemed so happy, it makes viewers wonder if Frill can cause a very sudden decline in their mental health.

3 Neiru's Identity Affecting The Group

After the recap portion of the finale episode ends, audiences are swiftly told that Neiru was an artificially intelligent robot (A.I) created by Kotobuki. Neiru was modeled after her "sister", Airu, and it's inferred that Airu stabbed Neiru and then committed suicide due to her jealousy.

Neiru was beloved by the girls regardless. They react badly at first because they're tired of losing so many people, not because she isn't human. However one issue remains, Neiru and Frill are both A.I. This likely makes Neiru susceptible to some kind of corruption from Frill, which could affect the group.

2 The Girls Suddenly Giving Up On Neiru (Briefly)

Wonder Egg Priority spends its run building up the traditional values of magical girl anime –  friendship is everything, believe in yourself, and most importantly, never give up on those you care about. Yet the girls seem to throw most of that away when they don't look for Neiru. Even stranger, Ai doesn't even answer Neiru's phone call when she knew she was missing.

The series is concluded with Ai returning to fighting for the people in the eggs in hopes of seeing Neiru again, so not all hope is lost, but Rika and Momoe are still nowhere to be found.

1 Neiru's Fate Is Still Unknown

The biggest set-up for a second season comes with Neiru's disappearance. After successfully saving her sister, Neiru gives her pet rat to Ai and leaves, texting to say she'll be gone for a while without much clarification.

Neiru's whereabouts are still unknown. Frill appeared in her dream before she disappeared, and Neiru calls Ai once. Ai doesn't pick up, and she seems convinced the eggs are the only way to find Neiru. If Wonder Egg Priority didn't get another season, this would certainly be the most disappointing mystery for fans who grew to love Neiru over the show's thirteen-episode run.
