The Book of Boba Fett's Mid-Credits Gave One Hero a Shocking Upgrade

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 7 of Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, "Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor," streaming now on Disney+.

In the Season 1 finale of The Book of Boba Fett, fans were eager to discover the fate of Timothy Olyphant's Cobb Vanth. The preceding episode saw him and his deputy getting shot by the bloodthirsty Cad Bane as a warning to stay out of the fight for Mos Espa.

Luckily, Cobb's garrison arrived for the firefight, hellbent on helping Mos Espa, but one of Cobb's soldiers admitted the Marshall of Freetown did get mowed down in cold blood. It was implied Cobb died off-screen in between episodes, that is until the mid-credits suggested he'd be returning to action with a shocking upgrade.

In the very brief stinger, the Modifier (Thundercat) is seen working at Boba's palace, tending to someone in a bacta tank. This person is none other than Cobb, healing in the fluid while hooked up to a respirator. The Modifier then lights a surgical torch, clearly intent on doing for Cobb what he did for Fennec Shand.

The scene ends quickly, indicating Cobb will get a machine upgrade like Fennec did when Boba found her bleeding out from a gut wound in The Mandalorian. It might be that Modifier simply stitches Cobb up akin to Fennec, who only showed signs of an upgrade when she was flipping in battle and leaping around buildings. It was a clever way of disguising how deadly she was as an assassin and bounty hunter. But the Modifier could take on Cobb as a bigger challenge and dive deep in experimentation the way he did with the teenage biker gang. He may give Cobb extra tools apart from repairing his insides and make him a bit more superhuman.

An eye-scope like Skad is an option, providing Cobb better aim and allowing him to scour the terrain. The operation may even get outlandish by giving a hidden blaster for an arm -- which we've seen with other hunters in various Star Wars comics and cartoons. That said, once Cobb's body is fortified, he should be pleased with any upgrade, especially after having to give up Boba's Beskar armor. Cad Bane even made fun of how the Marshall could have used Beskar protection, so hopefully it's a good mix of offense and defense.

This creates a lot of potential moving forward for those who want to defend Tatooine as well. The Pykes were run out of town for the while, but other gangs such as the Trandoshans still linger after trying to betray Boba's team. As such, the Modifier could officially work for Boba to create an army of enforcers, whether or not Boba remains daimyo.

A potential cyber-legion could even extend to Freetown's warriors, boosting Cobb's team to help keep the peace as part of an interplanetary alliance among those who want to be part of the order. This initiative would be a much better offer rather than just hiring people using credits, and would allow Boba to create a genuine network of super-soldiers who don't want to see Tatooine exploited, whether by spice traders or the Empire's remnants. Ultimately, it strengthens Cobb to protect his territory and keep building relationships that Boba will surely treasure moving forward as he's already done with Din Djarin.

See how Cobb got the upgrade in The Book of Boba Fett, with all seven episodes of Season 1 streaming now on Disney+.
