WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 7 of Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, "Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor," streaming now on Disney+.
While the two seasons of The Mandalorian indicated Baby Yoda was indeed Force-sensitive and had Jedi potential, it was hard to really call him such. He didn't have much training as he was secreted out as a baby during Order 66. As a result, he was winging it, acting on natural instinct and then falling asleep when he exerted himself by tapping into the mystical energy.
However, come the Season 1 finale of The Book of Boba Fett, Baby Yoda -- or in this case, the slightly more mature Grogu -- was officially unveiled as Star Wars' newest Jedi as he helped save Mos Espa in the most devastating fashion.
While Din Djarin, Boba and Fennec Shand put their alliance in place for the war against the Pyke Syndicate and Cad Bane, Luke Skywalker's X-Wing arrived at Peli Motto's garage on Tatooine. R2-D2 piloted the craft and informed Peli that he was delivering Grogu to Din because the youngster chose the Mandalorian over training with Luke at the rebuilding Jedi temple.
Unfortunately, when Peli got him to Din, it was in the midst of the firefight at Mos Espa, with Din's team's backs to the wall. That said, he was glad Grogu came back, hugging the child and making it clear he'd protect him, no matter what. However, it was Grogu to the rescue when the Scorponek annihilator droid attacked Din in the fight.
The Mandalorian couldn't penetrate the droid's shield with his Darksaber or blasters, and the battle culminated in the machine using its pincers to try to stab him. The Scorponek pinned Din down in the dusty terrain, but right when it was about to deliver the killing blow, Grogu raised his hand, closed his eyes and began channeling the Force. He meditated and pulled a giant screw from the droid's leg to him, catching it and canting over in glee. It continued his fascination with gears and mechanics, but more so, it threw the machine off-balance and allowed Din to escape. This enabled Boba and the Rancor to come in and rip it to shreds, leaving Din and Peli stunned how Grogu had evolved in his brief time with Luke.
Grogu's heroics didn't end there. When Boba faced off with Cad Bane, the Rancor was left rampaging through the town. Din used his jet-pack and flew to the beast to calm it down as it scaled a tower, but it quickly smacked him away before landing on the ground to feed. Grogu once more showed his mettle, waddling over and raising his hand again. But, this time he got into the mind of the behemoth.
He soothed its restless soul, sensing it was scared after Cad Bane almost burned its face off. It was clear the creature just wanted peace, and Grogu provided that by putting it into nap-mode. The scene is reminiscent of one from The Rise of Skywalker, in which Rey calmed an injured, giant cave serpent. In this case, however, Grogu healed the being's mental state, not its physical one. This reminded fans of his power and potential, which Luke wanted to harness. Ironically, this act took the fizz out of the child, who promptly fell asleep next to the Rancor. Thankfully, by that time Boba and Co. had won the day. It ultimately set Mando and Grogu up for some interesting adventures as they sped off into the cosmos to end the episode, ready to explore what the wandering Jedi could do.
See how Grogu made an impact in The Book of Boba Fett, with all seven episodes of Season 1 streaming now on Disney+.
