A recently revealed cover image for Flashpoint Beyond #3 shows off a character previously assumed to be dead in the Flashpoint universe -- the queen of plants herself, Poison Ivy.
Illustrated by Xermánico and revealed on ComicBook.com, the variant cover shows Flashpoint Batman wrapped in vines and leaves as Ivy -- sporting a new hairstyle as well as a striking strapped leotard - strokes his cheek. Meanwhile, the eerie red eyes and facial features of Swamp Thing can be seen in the background, hinting that the two agents of the Green -- the elemental force of nature in the DC multiverse -- are working together against Thomas Wayne.

- The DC event of 2022 continues! Thomas Wayne's investigation into the Clockwork Killer goes sideways when he is confronted by a deadly alien invader the world knows as...Project: Superman? But what's happened to the Kryptonian and Krypton in the World of Flashpoint? Will Thomas Wayne do what he has to in order to stop Superman-or has he changed? And what are those strange earthquakes now erupting across reality?
Xermánico, whose other recent work for DC includes Infinite Frontier and Justice League, also posted several slides showing his illustration process on Instagram. He notes that he had painted the cover using gouache and watercolor.
In the Flashpoint universe's version of Gotham, Bruce Wayne was killed by a mugger, causing his father Thomas to become a more grizzled Batman. This Caped Crusader is willing to use both firearms and lethal force against criminals when necessary. As established in Issue #1 of Flashpoint: Batman - Knight of Vengeance, the 2011 three-issue series by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso, Poison Ivy was one of several villains that Batman had murdered. This variant cover suggests that she may still be alive.
There is currently no indication whether the inclusion of Poison Ivy on Xermánico's illustration is a retcon or simply a stylistic choice, but anything is possible considering that the entire Flashpoint universe was originally destroyed at the onset of DC's New 52 reboot in 2011. Flashpoint Batman returned via multiverse shenanigans during DC's Rebirth initiative in 2016, briefly following a path of villainy during writer Tom King's run on Batman. Thomas Wayne has since sought a path of redemption, serving with other multiverse-hopping heroes on the interstellar Justice League Incarnate team.
Flashpoint Beyond is written by Geoff Johns and illustrated by Risso, who returns to the world and character that he made famous. The series sees Thomas Wayne investigating a mysterious foe known as the Clockwork Killer while dealing with the changes of his reality, which was altered when it was visited by the Flash in the original 2011 Flashpoint series.
Issue #0 of Flashpoint Beyond releases on April 48. Issue #3, featuring the Poison Ivy cover, hits store shelves on May 17.
