Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson teases that fans of Black Adam will want to tune in to the Super Bowl.
Writing on Twitter, Johnson's wording suggests that a trailer for the long-awaited Black Adam movie will finally arrive on Feb. 13. "After all these years, my football dream of standing on the SUPER BOWL field has FINALLY….come true. This will historic. This will be my honor. This will be ELECTRIFYING. I’ll see you THIS SUNDAY!"
While Black Adam is never mentioned by name, the use of phrases such as "electrifying," "historic" and "honor" have led fans to believe that they'll see another glimpse of the titular anti-hero during the annual event. If the tease turns out to be true, Johnson will be competing against Arnold Schwarzenegger's portrayal of Zeus, the Greek god of the sky, in an upcoming commercial for BMW's new range of electric cars.
While little is known about Black Adam, fans were treated to a glimpse of Johnson in action during DC Fandome 2021. The clip features the muscle-bound, cape-clad leader eliminating a room full of armed soldiers without lifting a finger, relying solely on his powerful, magic-based lightning abilities. Speaking to what initially drew him to Black Adam, Johnson said that he's been a fan of the character since he was a child. "Growing up the DC villains were always my 'heroes.' As evil as they were, they were always my favorite. Still are," said Johnson. "Luthor, Joker, Brainiac, Sinestro etc. and of course the ruthless one, Black Adam. Cooking up some cool, bad ass and fun plans with DC to introduce Black Adam into the Universe."
In terms of what audiences can expect from Black Adam, the film's synopsis reveals that the powerful protector of Kahndaq will be set free from a 5,000-year imprisonment. While the actual details of the plot are still unknown, Warner Bros. did confirm that the movie will feature the Justice Society of America. Confirmed characters include Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Aldis Hodge's as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a script by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, Black Adam premieres on July 29, 2022.
