Cobra Kai: The 10 Most Immature Characters, Ranked | CBR

"Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy" is the motto that John Kreese's Cobra Kai dojo is built on. It is also what wrecks Johnny Lawrence's promising karate career and turns him into an alcoholic deadbeat. The TV sequel to the wildly popular Karate Kid movie franchise takes a rather different tonal approach.

Cobra Kai reignites the ancient battle between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, dragging their kids (and other kids) into the resulting conflagration. Not every Cobra Kai character is relatable, but many of them aren't as mature as they should be. That said, everyone is on their own personal journey; some people just take longer than others to reach their destination.

10 Samantha's Rebellious Phase Begins A Little Later Than Expected

Samantha LaRusso is initially well-behaved, at least compared to her peers, but she begins losing her sense of decorum after the school fight at the end of Season 2.

While Samantha's lack of maturity is partly the result of her horrific experiences, Sam's violent tendencies are a massive departure for her character. Her rebellious phase starts a bit later than usual, but she finally manages to step out from under her father's shadow with a little help from Eagle Fang.

9 Kreese Isn't A Fraction As Mature As Some Of His Students

John Kreese is well into his seventies, and certainly one of the craftiest characters in Cobra Kai — he deceives impressionable minds with promises of greatness. Kreese effortlessly wrests control of his original dojo from his ex-student, Johnny Lawrence, demonstrating that he's not someone to be trifled with.

Unfortunately, Kreese's teaching methods border on the savage, particularly his focus on pure offense. In addition, Kreese proves to be a sore loser, an indication that he's not a fraction as sensible as some of his students.

8 Johnny Is Still Unable To Forsake His Glory Days In The '80s

Johnny Lawrence's teen years are spent surrounded by flunkeys who enable his arrogant swagger. He eventually recognizes his sensei for the power-hungry maniac that he is. Sadly, Johnny doesn't get the emotional support he needs, which explains why he's still unable to let go of his glory days in the '80s.

Even as an adult, Johnny is extremely immature, as shown through his collapsing relationship with his son, Robby. On the other hand, interacting with Daniel and Miguel forces him to rethink his old ways.

7 Shannon's Intermittent Parenting Takes A Toll On Her Son's Emotional Development

Shannon Keane, Johnny's put-upon ex-wife, has no option but to raise Robby alone. She does her best to put food on the table, but her intermittent presence takes a toll on her son's emotional development.

Shannon believes that Johnny is to blame for Robby's problems, and she's mostly right, although she has a habit of glossing over her own mistakes and only focusing on Johnny's. Shannon is a complex character: she takes her own sweet time to accept her parenting blunders, but she actively wants to mend her broken relationships.

6 Tory Continues To Be A Troublesome Thorn In Samantha's Side

Tory's backstory is one of the saddest in Cobra Kai. As the only able-bodied person in her household, she is obligated to take care of her ailing mother while simultaneously juggling her educational responsibilities.

As a consequence, Tory's nerves are constantly fried, so it's not really surprising that she finds it difficult to form meaningful bonds with other people. Tory continues to be a thorn in Samantha's side until Season 4, when she replaces her aimless anger with an overwhelming drive to win at karate.

5 Robby Chooses Kreese Over Both Daniel & Johnny

Given the state of his parents, it's obvious that Robby grows up with severe abandonment issues, many of which stem from the absence of role models in his life. Despite all the neglect he suffers, Robby manages to build an independent life for himself.

The only issue is that he rejects both Daniel and Johnny when they attempt to reconnect with him, instead choosing to stay by Kreese's side. This creates problems for everyone involved, but it appears that Robby has realized the error of his childish ways in the Season 4 finale.

4 Hawk Metamorphoses Into The Very Thing He Once Hated

Before he metamorphoses into Hawk, Eli Moskowitz is a shy nerd who has only one real friend: Demetri. He endures excessive bullying at the hands of his peers, all the while secretly wishing he could be one of the popular kids at school.

Eli accomplishes this pipe dream by "flipping the script" on his timid version, transforming into the far more aggressive Hawk. Hawk successfully avoids being bullied after this point, but he goes too far with his new persona and turns into a terrible bully himself.

3 Terry Is Violently Unstable & Has No Moral Compass Holding Him Back

Terry Silver has always been violently unstable, revealing his true colors in The Karate Kid Part III (1989). Although his attempts to ruin the relationship between Daniel and Mr. Miyagi blow up in his face, Terry returns to wreak more havoc in Season 4 of Cobra Kai.

Kreese unwittingly invites Terry back into the Cobra Kai fold, hoping that he'd be able to control the latter through intimidation. Terry has no moral compass holding him back, though, and Kreese inevitably bears the brunt of his friend's backlash.

2 Trey & Cruz Maintain Their Juvenile Habits Even After Going To Prison

Trey and Cruz are Robby's criminal friends — their negative influence on his life leads to undesirable outcomes for Robby. They shoplift, indulge in illicit drugs, and even demand access to the LaRusso Auto Group's garage so they can loot the place for automobile parts.

Trey and Cruz steal several wallets from unsuspecting guests at the Beach Country Club, but Daniel's timely intervention ensures that they end up in prison. Unfortunately, Trey and Cruz maintain their juvenile habits behind bars.

1 Anthony Is A Spoiled Kid Who Develops A Penchant For Bullying

Daniel and Amanda LaRusso are great parents, but they still fail to set boundaries for their son. Anthony prefers video games over spending quality time with his family. This is a natural feature of most adolescents, but he's significantly more spoiled than other kids his age.

Anthony's aunt, Vanessa, believes that Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder might the reason behind his uncontrollable behavior. In Season 4, Anthony develops a penchant for bullying, taking his anger out on the new student at his school, Kenny Payne.
