Ahead of its physical store opening at the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City, IKEA Philippines said it would continue to secure stock to meet customers' demand despite shipping challenges brought about by the pandemic. The Swedish furniture brand soft-launched its online store in September with full availability starting on November 3.
According to IKEA Philippines' in-store logistics manager Lesniewski Jaroslaw, the most in-demand products so far have been "home office articles." He cites the work-from-home arrangement many companies have implemented as the likely reason for the demand. Jaroslaw, who worked for IKEA in the U.K. for seven years before moving to the Philippines, also assured customers that "we are doing our best to deliver the best availability to our customers."
IKEA PH Working to Have Enough Stock to Meet Customer Demand
IKEA's Pasay City branch is set to be the retailer's largest store in the world and is expected to open its doors on November 25. While buyers wait, IKEA is working to fill up its 65,000 square-meter warehouse. Jaroslaw notes that amid the pandemic, the company is working through "the biggest supply chain constraints that we have ever seen." However, IKEA is making sure to put in the necessary efforts to "secure enough stock in the country for the opening," Jaroslaw said. "We have around seven containers—40-foot containers—to secure good availability for the customers," he added.
The first local outpost of IKEA will reportedly have its own IKEA Restaurant (where shoppers can enjoy their famous meatballs!) and carry over 9,000 products, the first batch of which arrived in the Philippines in June.
