(SPOT.ph) When you're looking for a warm and hearty bowl that delivers full-on umami sans frills or fuss, the Japanese rice bowl known as gyudon totally fits the bill. This dish hits the spot every time, thanks to its tandem of beef simmered with onions in a savory-sweet sauce, served over rice that absorbs the remaining liquid. Over in Japan, Sukiya, a popular gyudon restaurant chain in the Land of the Rising Sun is known for their knockout version of the beef dish. ICYDK, they're said to be opening in our shores—and true enough, we spotted a boardup of their upcoming branch in Glorietta 2, Makati!

Over in Japan, Sukiya is known for their Gyudon with beef that's tender as can be—not to mention quite affordable as it starts at just 290 JPY (roughly P128.85) for a small bowl. The gyudon can be had plain or with toppings that include kimchicheesegrated radish, and more, introducing contrasting tastes and textures to the mix.

In Japan, Sukiya's signature Gyudon can also be had with toppings—the Three Cheese has a melty blend of cheeses, for example.

Their Japanese branches also make the Pork Rice Bowl that's got a similar umami profile to the beef version, but slightly-different meaty bite; and the Yokohama Curry Rice which pairs rice and a deeply savory curry sauce with accompaniments like meats, veggies, and more. Fingers crossed that these make it to the Philippine menu as well!
