Facebook, Instagram Were Down, and People Are Not All Right

facebook

(SPOT.ph) The Internet was down all night; and by Internet, we mean Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Outage tracking site Downdetector logged tens of thousands of reports starting in heavily populated areas in North America and parts of Europe since the evening of October 4, 11:45 p.m. (Philippine time). Facebook tweeted about the issue past midnight—12:22 a.m. on October 5: "We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience."

While services were restored—at least, partially—after about six hours, related hashtags like #InternetShutdown and #FacebookDown trended well into Tuesday morning.

Here are some of the funniest tweets that we've seen while the [social media] world is burning...er, while Facebook is down:

Twitter Having Fun While the Rest of the Internet Is Down

Twitter's social media account, on the other hand, was enjoying the spotlight. The microblogging platform was quick to bank on the newfound attention with a quip, "hello literally everyone."
