Binibining Pilipinas Apologizes for "Natural Woman" Post

The Binibining Pilipinas organization on Saturday apologized for a social media post captioned "Natural womaaaaaan", which members of the LGBTQIA+ community saw as shade against the newly crowned, openly queer Miss Universe-Philippines. The post was of a photo of Binibining Pilipinas International 2021 Hannah Arnold.

The post is no longer on their Facebook page.

There was "no intention to throw malice at any individual," said the organization, which made no mention of Hannah Arnold or Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Luigi Gomez.

"We will never consciously do anything to minimize ther experience and truth of anyone," said the nearly 60-year-old pageant, which held the franchise to Miss Universe in the Philippines until 2019. The post was taken down.

Future posts will be vetted and the organization said it would be more "mindful" online. It also appealed to fans to spare its titleholders from vitriol as they had nothing to do with the post that was taken down.

The Binibining Pilipinas winners were crowned in July 2021 at the Araneta Coliseum, in a ceremony that many found memorable thanks to Catriona Gray's upbeat hosting energy and Boy Abunda's question about when it's "okay to not be okay". Meanwhile not a lot got to watch the Miss Universe Philippines ceremony live on the evening of September 30 because there was no live telecast, but pageant fans were able to follow along thanks to the very entertaining live tweets and hilarious reactions.
