Almost a Million Doses of Pfizer Vaccines Arrive in Manila, In Time for Vaccination of Minors

On October 11, the Philippines received 924,300 doses of Pfizer vaccines, which will be used to vaccinate minors starting Friday, October 15.

The shipment is the second tranche of the 1.8 million Pfizer jabs donated by the U.S. government via the global COVAX facility. The vaccines will be distributed to the regions in time for the October 15 rollout.

The Food and Drug Administration in September cleared Pfizer and Moderna for use on those aged 12 to 17 years old. Minors with underlying conditions will be prioritized, while those aged 15 to 17 will be first in line, the Department of Health earlier said.

With the latest shipment, the country's inventory of Pfizer doses is now at over 20 million, 12.6 million of which were donations from the vaccine-sharing facility.

As of October 10, over 23 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated, while 26.4 million have received their first dose, the National Task Force said.
