(SPOT.ph) You don't really need an excuse to have a slice of cake, especially since the occasions for us to actually have them—birthdays, graduations, and weddings—are few and far between. Luckily, the Queen City of the South has no shortage of places where you can get cake. While some of these spots have been staples of the Cebuano community for decades, others popped up fairly recently over the past few years, providing us with more choices. They all have one thing in common: they do a great job of sating anyone’s sweet cravings.

Want cake but you just want a slice? Drop by these places for cakes in Cebu where you can get a slice or two:
Abaca Baking Company
Abaca Baking Company may be known more for their breads and pastries (which, by the way, become available at 50% off an hour before closing time), but they also have sweeter stuff on their menu. One bite of the smooth, rich ganache and moist chocolate sponge of their Old-Fashioned Chocolate Cake (P185/slice) will be more than enough to send you straight to chocolatey heaven. Check out their Carrot Walnut Cake (P170/slice), which is filled with crunchy walnuts and covered in a smooth and creamy cheese icing, and their New York Style Cheesecake (P190/slice), a delightfully tangy dessert topped with a helping of blueberries.
Abaca Baking Company has branches at Crossroads Mall, Banilad, Cebu City; Cebu IT Park, Lahug, Cebu City; G/F Ayala Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu Business Park, Cebu City; Paseo Arcenas, Banawa, Cebu City; Robinsons Cybergate, Capitol Site, Cebu City; G/F Northwing, SM City Cebu; and Citadines at the Baseline, Capitol Site, Cebu City. Available online through Grabfood and Food Panda.
Fudge
Take a short walk from Foodland, the intersection of M. J. Cuenco and A. S. Fortuna, and you’ll come across a squat, unassuming one-story building with a five-letter sign that will pique your palate’s curiosities—Fudge. While it has its fair share of affordable meals (their pastas come at buy-one-take-one prices, for instance), they have been particularly renowned for their cakes over the past 12 years. This Cebuano establishment’s bestsellers include their Cheese Cake Delight (P125/slice), their Butterscotch Cake (P100/slice), their Carrot Cake (P115/slice), and of course, their Fudge Choco Cake (P110/slice), because what’s a place called Fudge without some chocolate cake?
Fudge is at 888 A. S. Fortuna Street, Banilad, Cebu City. Orders may be placed through Grabfood, Food Panda, and Couch Potato.
Fujinoya
Sweet-toothed Cebuanos would recall Fujinoya for being this hip-looking Japanese-inspired café in Lahug from the mid-2010s that served delightfully decorated desserts, typically Western favorites, infused with Japanese baking styles and techniques. Their original Japanese Cheesecake (P110/slice), for example, is taken from the recipe of Chef Hideo Goto, who hails from Fujinoya, Japan (yup, that’s where their name comes from). But because the standalone café doesn’t exist anymore, it may be easy to think that Fujinoya went the way of other short-lived dining places.
If you were to look hard enough along the same street, and venture into the lobbies of one of the more standout buildings in the area, then you’d be in for a surprise. Fujinoya continues to serve its signature, eye-catching sweets. Besides their Japanese Cheesecake, other cake slices worth trying are their Specialty Chocolate Cake (P170/slice) and Gateau Ganache (P170/slice), which aren’t overloaded with sugar and thus adhere to that meticulously Japanese concern for balance.
Fujinoya is at the lobby of Yello Hotel, Wilson Street, Lahug, Cebu City. Available online via Grabfood and Food Panda.
Charlie’s Cup
Cebuanos love sweets so much that cafés and dessert spots can be found even in the more rural parts of the island. Case in point: Charlie’s Cup, which has a grand view of Cebu’s western Balamban coast and the greenery of the valleys and farms of its mountain barangays. As with most other cafés in the city, Charlie’s Cup has breakfast, coffee, and tea choices on their menu. But for those hungry for desserts, you’ll find an impressive listing of cake slices—from Strawberry and Blueberry Cheesecakes (both at P195/slice) to Almond Caramel Cake (P180/slice) and Ube Halaya (P185/slice). Their signature cake, however, is the eponymous Charlie’s Cheesecake (P195/slice), a sweet and tart treat topped with whipped cream and funfetti candy.
Charlie’s Cup is at Barangay Tabunan, Cebu City, right along the Transcentral Highway. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
Café Elim

Café Elim is a Korean-inspired café with pretty cakes visible through the refrigerator display case that will catch your eye the moment you walk in. Their must-try, according to Elim staff, is the Strawberry Cake. This cake, priced at P170/slice, is topped (and filled!) with imported strawberries and layered in strawberry-flavored cream. If you’re craving for something a little sweeter, though, then their Mango (P130/slice) and Ube Pastillas (P150/slice) cakes make for delightful alternatives.
Café Elim is at G/F The Space, A. S. Fortuna corner P. Remedios Street, Mandaue City. For orders and inquiries, visit their Facebook page. Their cakes may also be ordered through Grabfood.
Tamp Café
If you're after a real sweet experience, Tamp Café’s Yema Cake ( P105/slice) is exactly the treat you’re looking for. It consists of three parts—a moist chocolate cake base, a layer of sponge cake, and swirls of yema frosting on the surface—the combination of which hits differently.
Other cake slices worth trying are their Caramel Delight (P95/slice), a chocolate cake layered with caramel icing and lined with almonds on the side, and—if you want something a little fruitier—their Strawberry Tres Leches (P150/slice), which is topped with fresh, plump samples of the aforementioned fruit.
Tamp Café has branches at 12 President Aguinaldo Street, Barangay Kasambagan, Cebu City and Wilson Street, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City. Their sister café, Tazza Café and Patisserie, has the same lineup of cakes at G/F Banilad Town Center, Banilad, Cebu City. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
Café Georg
Café Georg has been a favorite dining destination among Cebuanos for decades. From their cake lineup, check out their Choco Almond Tart (P120/slice)—a dessert stuffed with caramel-coated toasted almonds, layered with chocolate ganache, encased in a crust, and topped with whipped cream. For those looking for something less tangy and crunchy, fret not. One can never go wrong with either of Café Georg’s Tiramisu, which come in both regular (P95/slice) and mango varieties (P110/slice) or their Cheesecakes, Oreo and blueberry (both at P120/slice).
Café Georg is at G/F MLD Building, Governor M. Cuenco Avenue, Cebu City. Its sister outlet Oh! Georg is at G/F Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu Business Park, Cebu City. For more information, visit their Instagram page.
Orange Brutus
The OG Cebuano fast-food joint may not always be the first place that comes to the dessert-starved mind, but any mention of “cake” and “Orange Brutus” in one sentence inevitably leads to just one item on their menu: the Chocolate Monster (P75/slice). This gooey, glorious delight, lined with a layer of custard in the middle, makes for a great finisher after any of Orange Brutus’s meal, particularly their sizzling dishes, but the Monster can also be enjoyed on its own. The name Brutus may have been forever tied to treachery and deceit by Shakespeare, but the Chocolate Monster has only continued to command loyalty from Cebuanos and guaranteed that this particular Brutus isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
See a list of Orange Brutus branches. The Chocolate Monster is available online through Grabfood, Food Panda, and Let’s Eat Bai.
The Chocolate Chamber
For chocolate lovers of Cebu, finding out there’s actually an establishment on the island devoted to this rich product is good news. The Chocolate Chamber has a wide range of treats, from breads to cookies to various other pastries, that all have that one shared ingredient from which the place draws its name.
They also have cakes, the most highly recommended being the Tablea Old-Fashioned cake (P350/slice), “a simple, uncomplicated, and undemanding” dessert, according to proprietor Raquel Choa. Topped with golden cacao nibs and layered with thick icing, this moist chocolate cake strikes that right balance between sweet and bitter.
The Chocolate Chamber is at G/F Robinsons Galleria Cebu, Cebu City, though dine-in won't be available until the end of the year. Its sister company Ralfe Gourmet Casa de Cacao offers the same products at 3349 Topaz Street, Casals’ Village, Mabolo, Cebu City. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
Treat Street Café
In addition to being the only place in Cebu that serves Toby’s Estate Coffee, Treat Street also has its fair selection of cake and pie slices. Their Avocado Cream Pie (P125/slice) is made with only the best avocados. If you’re looking for something a little less reliant on the seasons or maybe just craving a dessert that’s a little chewier, then their Honey Toffee Crunch (P105/slice)—a light cake topped with crunchy toffee—is the obvious choice. Another distinctly Treat Street delight is their Treat Street Pie (P105/slice), a fudgy layer of caramel and walnuts topped with whipped cream and encrusted in chocolate.
Treat Street Café has branches at 2/F Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu Business Park, Cebu City and G/F Ayala Central Bloc, Cebu IT Park, Cebu City. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
