Egg Drop Sandwiches Are Taking Over Our Feeds; Here's Where to Get Them in Manila

(SPOT.ph) South Korea is a hotspot for all sorts of great eats—from traditional fare like good ol’ KBBQ to more modern fare like sweet, crispy croiffles. One recent trend has emerged, and it’s called the egg drop sandwich! Though the idea of egg sandwiches is nothing new—there’s the Western egg-salad sandwich and its Japanese counterpart—Korean egg drop sandwiches are in their own dang category.

Popularized by the K-Drama Hospital Playlist, egg drop sandwiches bring together eggs (usually scrambled, though some go for fried or soft-boiled eggs) plus other fillings—think bacon, ham, cheese, even avocados. They’re then sandwiched between thick slices of bread like brioche and drizzled with a sauce usually made with sriracha and condensed milk (don’t knock it before you try it) for a thicc, substantial sandwich that brings together savory, eggy, meaty, buttery, and slightly-sweet and spicy worlds! If you’re looking to try these savory treats in Manila, we’ve got you covered.

Based in Quezon City, Momo opened just last August 28 but are quickly gaining a following—and one glance at their bright yellow feed will show you why! More than their A+ branding game, though, are their drool-worthy egg drop sandwiches available in four variations, all named after different parts of Korea. All of them have bread, eggs, their own Momo sauce, and cheese; the Gwangju (P160) goes for a Southern-style tandem of bacon and corn, while the Busan (P170) is made for seafood fans as it’s got tuna and tomatoes. The Jeju (P170) pairs ham with buttery avocado slices, while the Seoul (P180)’s got smoky Spam, juicy mangoes, and nori! Just send them a message on social media to try it yourself.
