(SPOT.ph) Clark International Airport in Pampanga has been serving foreign and domestic flights since it opened in 1996. It's an alternative international gateway to Metro Manila, but far enough if you don't want to deal with the capital's congestion and just go straight to another destination in the Philippines. And as its new passenger terminal nears completion, people can't wait to travel again and enjoy its sleek design, contactless self-check in, and increased capacity. The free lounge dedicated to Overseas Filipino Workers is also one of the main draws of the new four-level terminal.

"Through the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Lounge, we extend to our country's modern-day heroes this facility for their exclusive use. The workers, who may be coming home for their scheduled breaks to be reunited with their families or who may be headed for long periods of stay in host countries, or who may be traveling for recreation, truly deserve special attention," Bi Yong Chungunco, chief executive officer of the Luzon International Premier Airport Development Corporation, said in a statement.

As in most international airports in the Philippines, OFWs form the bulk of frequent airport users. This is especially true at Clark International Airport, which is seen to be a "a growing catchment area in Central and Northern Luzon, due to the rapid rise of Clark as a preferred hub for business, economic and leisure activities," Chungunco added.

"Clark’s new terminal is envisioned to be an international gateway that all Filipinos can be proud of, not just because of its state-of-the-art facilities, but because it reflects Filipino values. Kasama na po rito and pagtanaw ng utang na loob. OFWs make a huge sacrifice for our country. The OFW Lounge is our small way of saying thanks, and reassuring our kababayans that we value them, wherever they are in the world and especially here at home," Vince Dizon, president of Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), also said.
