(SPOT.ph) With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging and hospitals dealing with a fresh surge of infections, everyone is once again encouraged to stay home and stay healthy. Some studies also suggest that regular physical activity may substantially reduce the risk of severe COVID-related diseases and symptoms. But it looks like you may have to do your workout routine indoors for now as Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Benhur Abalos announced that outdoor exercises are also prohibited during the two-week Enhanced Community Quarantine in Metro Manila from August 6 to 20.

"Nagpasa rin kami ng resolusyon ngayon lang hapon na ultimo paglabas ng bahay maski mag-exercise ay bawal na po sapagkat importante for the next two weeks mapangalagaan ang ating mga taga-Metro Manila," Abalos said on Monday night, August 9, during the taped address of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Prior to this, some outdoor exercises like walking around, jogging, and biking were allowed by local government units from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. A signed resolution is expected to be released today, August 10.

As of August 9, the total number of cases in the Philippines is at 1,667,714 with 8,900 new cases on Monday. The Department of Health clarified that the relatively lower case count was due to lower laboratory output on Saturday. The country recorded 11,021 new cases on August 7, the highest daily rise since April.

As of August 3, the Philippines has fully vaccinated at least 9,825,466 Filipinos or 8.92% of the population. According to herdimmunity.ph, the daily rate of vaccination is at 529,911. At this rate, it will take about seven more months to fully vaccinate 70 million Filipinos and achieve herd immunity.
