(SPOT.ph) With all the rewards and incentives pouring in for our Tokyo Olympic medalists, it makes sense that they're not so sure yet what to do with it all—except for Nesthy Petecio. The Philippines' first female boxer to take home a medal from the Olympics had a clear answer when asked what she plans to do: give it all to her family. After all, said Petecio during the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum on August 10, it was all for them from the start!

Nesthy Petecio Dedicates All Her Olympic Rewards to Family
"'Yong mga incentives po na matatanggap ko, sa pamilya ko po, nakalaan po 'yon sa pamilya ko," said Petecio. The Olympian stands to receive around P17-million from the government and private sector. A house and condominium are also on list of pledges, alongside many benefits from airlines and yup, even "namesake" brand Nestea.
The residences seem to be extra-special rewards, too. "Sa matatanggap ko po talaga, like sa bahay, mga condo po na ibibigay, nakapangalan na po sa mga kapatid ko. Nakalaan na po sa kanila," said the athlete. "Ayoko ding maranasan ng mga pamangkin ko 'yong naranasan naming hirap."
Petecio is originally from Davao del Sur. Coincidentially enough, it was only while she was on the way home from the Olympics that the dirt road leading to her family's home was leveled out by local government—a development she happily posted about on Facebook.
All Petecio wants now for her younger family members is that "maganda 'yong bahay na matuluyan nila, na okay po sila."
"Sila naman po 'yong dahilan kung bakit nandito po ako. Sila 'yong dahilan kung bakit nagsusumikap po ako na ayaw ko pong maranasan ulit ng mga pamangkin ko, mga kapatid ko na maliit, 'yong hirap na pinagdaanan ko po."
And to top it all off, Petecio shared that her main goal was to provide for her parents. "Pinakaplano ko po talaga na maranasan ng mama't papa ko 'yong mga gusto nilang maranasan." It is only when she is sure her family is provided for, "tsaka po 'yong sarili ko.".
While Petecio has been showered with gifts—alongside fellow Olympic medalists Hidilyn Diaz, Eumir Marcial, and Carlo Paalam—our other Filipino athletes at the Tokyo Olympics haven't been forgotten either. And while they may not have made it to the podium, just making it to the Olympics is already an incredible victory!
The Philippine Olympic Committee and the MVP Sports Foundation have pledged to give P500,000 to our Olympic athletes: gymnast Carlos Yulo, pole vaulter EJ Obiena, skateboarder Margielyn Didal, rower Cris Nievarez, judoka Kiyomi Watanabe, boxer Irish Magno, shooter Jayson Valdez, taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa, weightlifter Elreen Ando, sprinter Kristina Knott, swimmers Luke Gebbie and Remedy Rule, and golfer Juvic Pagunsan.
