(SPOT.ph) The Philippines' last athlete standing at Tokyo 2020 just finished an exciting match with a 4-1 split decision in favor of his rival, Galal Yafai of Great Britain. After Hidilyn Diaz's gold medal in women's weightlifting, Nesthy Petecio's silver medal in women's featherweight boxing, and Eumir Marcial's bronze medal in men's middleweight boxing, flyweight boxer Carlo Paalam officially bagged the country's fourth Olympic medal and the second silver. It's the most number of medals that the Philippines has hauled since the country participated in the Summer Olympics in 1924, and we couldn't ask for a better goodbye.

Paalam's opponent, Great Britain's Galal Yafai, walked away with their first gold medal in boxing for this year. The competition took control in the first round with all 10s, again scored more in the second round, and finally finished the three-round match.
Boxing is the Philippines' most Olympic medal-producing sport. Bantamweight boxer JosƩ Villanueva won bronze in 1932 in Los Angeles, featherweight boxer Anthony Villanueva won silver in 1964 in Tokyo, flyweight boxer Leopoldo Serantes won bronze in 1988 in Seoul, flyweight boxer Roel Velasco bagged bronze in 1992 in Barcelona, and flyweight boxer Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco clinched the silver medal in 1996 in Atlanta.
