(SPOT.ph) If you follow local food figures, you've likely chanced upon the Instagram account known as A Home Kewk. Owned by Bea Ledesma, it features her own cooking experiments and home-cooked dishes from follow food lovers from different backgrounds—and whether or not you cook yourself, a quick scroll on their feed is bound to get you both inspired... and hungry. This weekend, A Home Kewk is hopping over from your phone screen over to Makati as they're popping up at The Alley at Karrivin on Saturday, July 17, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.!

Here's what you can get at A Home Kewk's upcoming The Alley at Karrivin pop-up this weekend:

For the event, A Home Kewk goes for a short-but-sweet, lacto-ovo vegetarian menu that highlights two distinct yet equally drool-worthy sandwiches served on banana leaves. The Happy Egg Sando (P450) is Ledesma's take on a good ol' egg-salad sandwich, and she shares in an exchange with SPOT.ph that she's been "making [it] forever." With eggs, Kewpie mayonnaise, celery, onion, dill, celery salt, and cucumbers on Panaderya Toyo's Leche Pan milk bread, it's a creamy-meets-zesty party that you can give a peppery punch by alternating with bites of the blistered shishito peppers on the side.

And then there's the Very Veggie Burger (P400). It took about three months for Ledesma to finalize the recipe ("the evolution of that veggie burger was wild," she tells us), but the result is a must-try that might just turn you over to the green side. Unlike other versions that attempt to mimic meat and hide their plant foundations, this version flaunts its decidedly vegetal backbone with its mix of banana hearts, earthy malunggay, rich and nutty cashews ("for protein and that meaty bite and fat," says Ledesma) in the patty. Joining the party, too, are pickled gherkins and onions for brightness, a creamy housemade ranch dressing, and pillowy potato buns by Apo Baking Society to hold the flavor fiesta together.

It took Ledesma about three months to get to develop the recipe for her Very Veggie Burger (note that this isn't the final bun they'll be using).

For a reviving finish, go for the Coconut Granita (P100). You could very well call this summer in a scoop (two scoops, to be exact), as it combines coconut water and an icy coconut milk granita into a cooling dessert. (Queue in the summer vibes—and Katy Perry's California Girls on Spotify.)

You can head over to The Alley at Karrivin to try them, but if you'd rather stay in, you can order the two sandwiches for pickup through A Home Kewk's preorder form. From there, you can book a courier to get it delivered to your doorstep on the 17th.

How A Home Kewk Came About

Though Ledesma is not a professional chef, she's long loved food and cooking (which she started doing as early as around 10 or 11 years old!). "I love eating out and trying new food, but I also like making food—I like cooking, I like experimenting, [and] I like eating leftovers from restaurants the following day," Ledesma shares. "I also really like eating at friends’ homes, whether it’s like a proper entertaining setup where it’s like a fancy dinner, or like, a dog hangout and they bring out food they prepare. I enjoy the gamut, from casual meryenda to full-on meal."

Ledesma would often share her experiments on her personal Instagram account, but she eventually set the account to private to keep it focused on her more personal side. With that, however, she set up A Home Kewk—a public account that Ledesma shares would be the "locus" of her food interest. "A Home Lewk is basically where I get to share how I prepare food, and I get to see how friends and [other people]... prepare food at home," Ledesma relays.

Ledesma plays with all sorts of ingredients—including obscure local finds (like the local seaweed known as gamet), fresh produce, and more—and takes cues from different cuisines to cook up all sorts of dishes that aren't necessarily complicated to make, but are always as ingenious as they are comforting. Just some of these are the Sambal Butter Corn a.k.a. butter corn given Southeast-Asian personality; the soul-soothing Shrimp, Egg, and Avocado Soup; the simple-yet-satisfying Navajas with Fresh Pasta; and the Grilled Squid with Cabbage and Cashew Salad that's pretty much a party of different tastes and textures in a bowl.

Elsewhere, A Home Kewk features home-cooked eats by other people—and what's worth noting is that she doesn't limit her coverage to just cooking pros, as she features known folks across different industries.

You'll find all kinds of sweet and savory dishes by chef Erica Paredes and patissier Rebecca Disini alongside that of photographer Renzo Navarro, designer Rik Rasos, author and research fellow Nicole CuUnjieng Aboitiz, yoga instructor Kaye Aboitiz, and more—which well alludes to how cooking (and loving food) can and should be for everyone. "Home cooking is some of the best cooking and that’s the point of the IG [account]; it’s not supposed to be intimidating," says Ledesma.
