(SPOT.ph) You might have come across home-improvement groups on social media where people from all walks of life share their cool shopping finds and experiences not just in redecorating spaces, but also in buying property. It’s not at all surprising nowadays to see a homeowner in their early 20s strike a pose in front of a newly built structure or have a pristine, well-decorated condo as their backdrop. These posts are inspirational, for sure, but it leads most to wonder how it's actually possible to own a home, considering the pandemic, inflation, and monthly bills, among other things. Do you really need to just take the advice of those who bought before you who have said “lakasan ng loob lang 'yan” and that the way to get the home of your dreams would be smooth-sailing from then on?

In a virtual press event for Carousell’s ongoing Property Online Expo, we asked Carousell Philippines' Head of Property Shine Resurreccion about this notion. “Honestly, ‘lakasan ng loob’ is really a part of any purchase, especially [when] buying property,” she says. Beyond this, Resurreccion points out that it’s important to know whether you are ready for this purchase emotionally given life's uncertainties, and that you can “stand by that decision no matter what happens in the future.” You also have to consider if you’ve already found the perfect location that best fits your needs and if it’s the property type that you really want.
Resurreccion also suggests seeking advice from your friends and family, if you have doubts. “You can also check on different webinars, if you need to know more about real estate purchasing,” she adds.
Carousell Philippines General Manager Raffy Montemayor can attest to the importance of being informed before taking that huge step. “I think that my own [experience] a few years ago taught me the importance of doing research. Research, research, research, I mean, it's the largest investment or purchase we will ever make in our lives, especially now, during the pandemic.”
As research happens primarily online, Montemayor makes sure that the important details could be found on their classifieds-marketplace platform. On Carousell, a prospective property buyer could get all the relevant information they need such as photos, home tours, and brokers’ contact information. It’s also helpful to look up the brokers’ other listings. “I found that extremely helpful when looking for a property because sometimes, you'll notice that the property broker agent focuses on certain areas,” he says. Montemayor describes the research bit to be “all about homework and also finding out different partners who will help you along your property journey.”
