(SPOT.ph) As much as we have adapted to staying home after more than a year into the pandemic, it was still a relief when Malacañang announced the (very) gradual reopening of businesses. This includes staycation hotels, which were given the go signal to accommodate guests back in May. Health protocols are still in place, of course; and it helps a lot if you never have to leave the hotel premises just to have some good ol’ fun. It is with this idea that Okada Manila in Parañaque City operates as an integrated resort, where you have luxurious rooms, rows of shopping boutiques, a variety of food outlets, and a casino hub that are all operational amid the community quarantine.

Okada Manila was officially recognized in January as a Sharecare Health Security-verified destination by the digital health leader in partnership with Forbes Travel Guide. The star-rating service also awarded them their second consecutive five-star rating in February. This recognition is a testament to the effectiveness of their 3T campaign, “True Clean. True Safe. True Heart," which was launched in June 2020.
Protocols start even before you step into Okada Manila's doors as guests go through thermal scanners and high-end decontamination chambers. At the lobby, you can see blue-and-white colored robots (no, they're not R2-D2) that use ultraviolet light to eliminate germs and viruses from spaces with heavy foot traffic and highly touched surfaces. After check-in, guests are led to their disinfected rooms that bear tamper-resistant "3T Guarantee" stickers, which serve as proof that they've been thoroughly sanitized. The rest of the space has the same seal, from cabinets to the fridge door.
What to Do
All of Okada Manila's 993 rooms use smart devices, which means to say you can control room temperature, turn the lights on or off, surf through television channels, order room service, and even pull the drapes with one nifty tablet. Not only don’t you have to leave the hotel premises, you also don’t have to leave the room—or even the bed. And we totally understand.
Room types range from the 60-square-meter Deluxe (P12,000) to the two-bedroom Manila Bay Suite (P130,000). Somewhere in the middle is the Junior Suite (P17,500), which features a desk for when you just can’t disconnect from work (but why?!); a living area with plush couches; a bedroom with a king-sized bed and walk-in closet; and a spacious bathroom with a private jet tub stealing all the attention especially with the magnificent chandelier right above it. The room’s color motif can be louder and bolder than you want them too, but it just reflects the hotel’s all-out vibe.
If you manage to actually get out of the comfy bed, there's Okada Manila's The Retreat Spa for some much-needed pampering. Guests get their own massage rooms, which have a private toilet and bath, a tub, and lots of space for relaxing before and after your treatment. The Sole Retreat foot spa and reflexology center has also opened in the last week of June. All therapists wear PPEs for safety.
The resort's in-house Barbershop, which boasts a vintage motif with dark accents and all-leather seats; and Beauty Salon, which offers haircut, mani-pedi, nail art, and other beauty-related services, remain open, too. The fitness center is also operational at limited capacity.
One of Okada Manila's main draws is its Coral Wing Pool, which features a one-foot-deep children's pool, an adult pool, an infinity pool, 10 private casitas, and a pool bar. It is currently open to checked-in guests of all ages at a reduced maximum capacity of 100 pax. Since the Coral Wing Pool is open only on weekends, you can take a dip at the much smaller Retreat Spa Pool, which is open every day. Guests are provided with individually wrapped and sealed towels and individual laundry bags.
For some good ol' gambling, there's Okada Manila's gaming floor that features electronic gaming machines and table games. The casino also implements the same strict health and safety standards as the rest of the hotel.
Where to Eat
As mentioned, in-room dining is available with a few clicks on the tablet. The year-long isolation may have increased our phone anxiety, so we’re giving the online ordering feature a thumbs up. Their in-house kitchen’s menu ranges from all-day breakfast meals to steaks, so you won’t run out of choices if this becomes your go-to option for dining.
For the more adventurous, Okada Manila offers diverse dining outlets within the resort. As of writing, the following are already operational: the Lobby Lounge, which offers Filipino dishes and Asian favorites; Medley Buffet, where complimentary breakfast is served; Catch by the Bay, which is known for their hot pot set; and Kiapo, which offers Filipino rice toppings. They have also reopened Goryeo, which offers an eat-all-you-can Korean barbecue feast for P1,499 per head; and Enbu, which specializes in Japanese grill menu items. Most of the restaurants also allow takeaways.
Heads up: Jollibee and Starbucks are open, too, in case hankering for some comfort food hits.
Where to Shop
Within Okada Manila's 42-hectare property are two shopping corridors: the Retail Boulevard and Crystal Corridor, where you can find brands like Pandora and Jo Malone. Couples on a romantic staycation can also avail the services of professional florists at Les Fleurs.
Note: As of writing, Okada Manila is already open to all ages. Guests who are between the ages of 18 and 65 are no longer required to present a negative COVID-19 test result. But those below 18 and above 65 years old are required to present a negative RT-PCR test result taken not more than 72 hours prior to check in.
