(SPOT.ph) If you've been to China or Taiwan (and in particular, explored their street-food scene or night markets), you've likely come across shou zhua bing a.k.a. scallion pancakes. This savory, on-the-go breakfast-slash-snack is a favorite among locals and tourists alike for its distinct crisp-flaky texture and earthy flavor. And though they're usually had plain, one Chinese food shop ingeniously uses these pancakes to make one-of-a-kind savory rolls that are bound to be your next go-to movie-watching snack or post-shopping fuel. Check out Liang Crispy Roll, which opens tomorrow, July 17, at SM Aura Premier!

Heads up: The first 30 customers on opening day can get a one-year supply of these rolls (come early; they open at 10 a.m.!), and they'll also be holding a buy-one, get-one promo the whole day. Here's the lowdown on what makes these rolls a must-try.

Liang Crispy Roll is now in the Philippines, and here's why you should check them out:

Liang Crispy Roll hails from China (where it's the number one brand for scallion pancakes!) and was brought to our shores by Fredley Group of Companies, who also brought us brands like Macao Imperial Tea, New York Fries & Dips, and more. Their specialty is what they call the Crispy Roll—essentially a rolled sandwich comparable to burritos or wraps, but with scallion pancakes taking place of the usual pita or tortilla.

It's an unconventional move, but it works: The scallion pancakes have a distinct crisp-chewy character that showcases flakiness as you take a bite; think of them as a grassier, scallion-specked cross between a pita and Indian paratha. They're then rolled with your fillings of choice and served in a paper cone that makes them easy to bring around wherever you go.

"The crispy rolls are imported all the way from Shanghai, China, [and] we use a Prince Castle contact grill that is patented," says Avin Ong, CEO and founder of the Fredley Group of Companies. "Our savory flavors were developed by [the Fredley Group of Companies] to make sure there's a flavor for everyone... We created these flavors to match the palate of Filipinos."

True enough, you're bound to find your perfect match with any one of their flavors. The Pork BBQ (P145) is an easy favorite, as it features barbecued pork that's tender to the bite with a slightly-sweet and savory character. Yet another winner is the Angus Beef Steak (P145), thanks to its shawarma-esque combo of succulent steak strips, lettuce, and onions.

If it's a lighter bite you seek, try the Veggie Delite (P95)—this roll goes for a fresh and zesty mix of bell peppers, lettuce, and tomatoes, whose crisp and juicy traits are great against the richness of the scallion pancakes. On the more indulgent end of the spectrum is the 5 Cheese Melt (P125), which combines American cheese, cream cheese, cheddar, mozzarella, and parmesan on lettuce for a gooey-meets-creamy sensation.

Don't miss the Grilled Chicken (P125), as its simple but stellar combo of succulent-smoky grilled chicken, lettuce, and cucumber is especially great alongside the scallion pancakes. Last but not least is the Chunky Tuna (P125)—think of it as the tuna sandwiches of your youth, but in a more scallion-forward and flaky medium. You can also pair your roll(s) of choice with their Dalandan (P80) or Chilled Tea (P80) beverages.

What's great about these rolls is that they're easy to grab and go, so you can take your order with you as you shop around or run errands at the mall. Whether you take them as a filling snack or light meal, these rolls well allude to the versatility of Chinese scallion pancakes, as their distinct taste and texture make for a one-of-a-kind experience from the first to the last bite.
