Tarlac to Nueva Ecija in 20 Minutes? DPWH Says It's Possible

(SPOT.ph) With Luzon being the biggest island in the Philippines, travelers often go on fun road trips on scenic highways to get to some of country's best destinations. There's the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway if you want to go to beautiful coastline in Zambales and the Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway if you want to have a laid-back weekend in the Surfing Capital of the North. On July 15, these two highways will be connected to the Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija through the Central Luzon Link Expressway. Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar claims that "travel time from Tarlac City to Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija will be reduced to only 20 minutes [from the usual 70 minutes]" with the toll-free expressway's completion.

Construction of the Central Luzon Link Expressway started in 2017 through funding by a P11.811-billion loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The first phase, which will open on Friday, runs for 18 kilometers of the 30-kilometer project. It will service motorists coming from Tarlac City in the Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway and Tarlac–Pangasinan–La Union Expressway connections up to the intersection of Aliaga-Guimba Road in Nueva Ecija.

Phase one was initially scheduled to open in December 2020, but construction was delayed due to the pandemic. The next phase is set to connect North Luzon East Expressway to the rest of Nueva Ecija. The expressway has four lanes and is expected to reduce traffic along Maharlika Highway.
