(SPOT.ph) Siargao, like Palawan and Boracay, has been hailed time and again by international publications and award-giving bodies as one of the best islands in the world. And while the pandemic put a damper in our tourism industry, it didn't stop the Surfing Capital of the Philippines from being recognized as one of Time's World's Greatest Places for 2021 alongside 99 other "extraordinary destinations to explore."
According to the New York-based American news magazine and website, the list was compiled through "solicited nominations of places—including countries, regions, cities and towns—from [their] international network of correspondents and contributors. They particulary turned their attention towards destinations that offer new and exciting experiences. The result was a list of 100 "unique destinations," which are "well worth reading (and dreaming) about until it’s time, once again, to explore."
Siargao in Surigao del Norte was described as a "teardrop-shaped island off the coast of Mindanao [that] until recently had been best known to a dedicated band of surfers lured by consistent waves." Time writer Duncan Forgan singled out the beachfront Inara Siargao Resort, which is worth booking as soon as the island opens to international travelers.
