Margielyn Didal's Positive Vibe Is Just What We Need This Monday

(SPOT.ph) Who likes Mondays? It's the end to a relaxing weekend and the start to another sure-to-be-packed work week. Not to mention that today, we also have the State of the Nation Address, the inevitable Quezon City traffic jam, the habagat, and rising cases of the Delta variant. But in the middle of these metaphorical (and literal) dark clouds, Filipino athlete Margielyn Didal is sending us some positive vibes from the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Japan. The 22-year-old just clinched a spot in the final round of the Women's Street Skateboarding category after finishing seventh in the qualifiers at the Ariake Park.

The Olympian's battlecry has always been to have fun while skating, whether on Cebu's streets or at international competitions. And, based on reporter-athlete Gretchen Ho's live coverage of the Olympics, Didal is definitely making the most of her experience at the world's biggest sporting event. Check out her pose during the introductions prior to prelims:

She also knows how to amp up the crowd after pulling off a cool trick, or show off a dance move or two while waiting for her turn at the ramps.

Days before her competition, Didal posted a photo with skateboarding legend Tony Hawk. "This guy asked me to take a photo with him and I let him because he looks like Tony Hawk," the skater from Cebu teased.

Didal recorded a final score of 12.02 during the elimination round, where only the top eight skaters from the roster of 20 are advancing to the finals. She's up against Japan’s Funa Nakayama, Momiji Nishiya, and Aori Nishimura; Brazil's Rayssa Leal; Netherland's Roos Zwetsloot; China's W Zeng; and U.S.' Alexis Sablone.

The final round is happening today at 11:25 a.m. (Philippine time). Didal is in contention for an Olympic medal.
