(SPOT.ph) Bea Alonzo signed her contract with GMA on July 1—and her first appearance on the network has already aired! The actress kicked off this new chapter in her career with a guest appearance on Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, where she gave the journalist a tour of her farm in Zambales, Beati Firma. The pair drove around in a golf cart, cooked some dinengdeng (think Ilocano version of pinakbet), did a hilarious impromptu reenactment session with "Popoy," and gave viewers some insight on just how hard Alonzo has worked to get to where she is now.
How She Started Vs. How It's Going, Bea Alonzo Edition
As Soho pointed out, Alonzo was just 13 years old when she first began hustling. Alonzo was spotted by talent manager Archie Ilagan at a beauty pageant in Pasig City where she didn't even win a title. Instead, Ilagan was won over by how she "stood out" in the competition. It was that one pageant that launched a showbiz career that spans two decades—and is still going strong.
At the time, Alonzo was living in Barangay Ususan, Taguig, with her family. Soho and her team tapped the actor's old neigbor, Alan Cruz, to show the old house where Phylbert Angelli Ranollo (a.k.a. Bea Alonzo) grew up. Cruz showed a small canal near the old house that they explained was the location of an old water pump. Probably the same poso that inspired the new, fancy fountain-version that Alonzo has on her farm! As she said in a previous vlog, it gives her family a "nostalgic feel" and "reminds us of our humble beginnings."
"Mahirap pong maging mahirap kapag naguumpisa ka mag-artista," Alonzo said. She would hitch rides with the crew of whatever show she was working on, and even went house to house with her mom, Mary Ann, to borrow clothes from their friends. Remember her first teleserye with John Lloyd Cruz? Yup, she was just 15 when she joined Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay.
"I had to make a lot of sacrifices just to get here," pointed out the 33-year-old actress. She wasn't able to finish schooling, which is now her "greatest insecurity." And most hard-hitting of all, "Malaki 'yong pagkukulang ko pagdating sa time sa pamilya namin."
