(SPOT.ph) Pinoys are serious streamers, no doubt about it. And it looks like streaming platforms are matching up to the demand! Not only does more than half of our population own at least one streaming service account, we rank sixth among countries with the best access to the 100 most in-demand shows. This is according to a report from Finder, an independent comparison platform and information service started in Australia.
How many Pinoys own a streaming account?
Around 62% of Filipino adults surveyed have at least one streaming service account, landing the Philippines at the fourth spot among 18 countries for the most number of subscribers. Finder surveyed a total of 28,547 adults.
This means that a larger percentage of our population are subscribed to a streaming service than Canada and the U.S. New Zealand landed at the top with arund 65% while Pakistan recorded 45%.
Netflix was unsurprisingly the most popular streaming choice in the Philippines and across all countries surveyed. More than 40% of Pinoys had a Netflix account; followed by 17.29% with YouTube Premium and 4.52% with iflix. Netflix had a hold over around 42% of all correspondents across the nations. Disney+ was also the usual answer from other countries—leaving us feeling left out all over again.
How much access do we get through our streaming platforms?
Finder found that out of the 18 countries, we ranked sixth in terms of access to in-demand series through streaming. This is thanks mostly to Netflix Philippines, which carries 44 titles out of Parrot Analytics’ top 100 most in-demand series, said the platform.
A peek at some of the most in-demand series of 2020 from Parrot Analytics' shows titles like Game of Thrones, Rick and Morty (both available on HBO Go), Stranger Things, Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, Spongebob Squarepants, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and American Horror Story (all available on Netflix). Disney+ titles such as Wandavision and Loki made it to the said list.
The report also states that we rank fourth in terms of cost. Finder pegged our standard streaming service subscription at U.S. $9.52 (around P470), much cheaper than Denmark's highest-ranking U.S. $15.99 (around P790).
Taking both cost and comprehensiveness in consideration, the Philippines takes the third spot overall, bested only by South Africa and Pakistan.
