(SPOT.ph) With public transportation in Metro Manila still a pain in the ass, most commuters have discovered (or rediscovered) the wonders of biking. It’s environment-friendly, a good workout, and can easily bring you from one point to another without having to suffer through traffic jams or long queues. While the rest of the region has yet to be 100% bike-friendly, some malls have stepped up in providing their biker guests with free parking, bike racks, bike lanes, and even helmet depositories.

These Metro Manila malls offer free bike parking for two-wheel riders:

The 10-hectare Capitol Commons is a favorite among bikers for its open spaces and refreshing landscape. Bike racks are found in almost every corner, and are especially near restaurants with al-fresco dining so you don’t have to worry about your wheels while eating. Guards also regularly go around—in bikes, of course—to make sure that the parked bikes are well secured.

Simultaneous with Robinsons Malls' nationwide rollout of bike parking and repair stations, Robinsons Place Manila launched their Bicycle Repair Station at the Midtown bike parking area of the mall. It is equipped with basic tools for a quick check-up on your bike, such as screwdrivers, open wrenches, and a manual air pump. You can also sign up for weekend bike lessons at their open-air parking space on the sixth floor, where instructors from the National Bicycle Organization can teach you how to ride a bike for two hours at P300. Robinsons Place Manila also hosts a monthly fun bike tour around Manila City's cultural and historic sites in partnership with the National Bicycle Organization (NBO).

Robinsons Metro East

Like their Manila branch, Robinsons Metro East also has well-lit and ample parking space for bikes and a fully equipped bike repair station. Their biggest amenity for two-wheel riders is the newly opened East Deck—a 5,327.88-square-meter outdoor lifestyle hub, which has more than enough space for biking lessons by NBO. Its sunset view of nearby Rizal Province is a good addition, too.

Greenhills Active Playground around Greenhills Mall is a dedicated space for exercise, such as biking and jogging. It features a bike lane, which is equivalent to one kilometer if you complete a whole lap around the complex. There are also designated parking spaces for bikers: Missouri Open Area, P4 (Connecticut Carpark), P8 (Future Site of Connor), P3 (near G Strip), and P1 (near OSquare 1).

SM Mall of Asia

SM Mall of Asia rolled out their bike-friendly initiatives in September 2020, including dedicated bike lanes, bike-centric street signs, additional bike racks, new street-level parking zones, and bike repair stations. They also have a no-cost helmet depository along Ocean Drive so you don't have to leave your gears or bring them with you while going around the mall. There are also vending machines with ride essentials such as bike locks, repair kits, gloves, and ponchos for last-minute purchases; and a separate vendo for refreshments and snacks perfect after a long ride along Manila Bay.

The Podium

To maximize their indoor parking space, The Podium installed vertical bike racks at the Julia Vargas car park driveway (beside Ca'Va). Parking is free of charge. The whole of Ortigas Center is bike-friendly, too, boasting dedicated bike lanes that are separated from the main of the road with bollards.

Ayala Malls Manila Bay's bike lines are not only found along the mall's perimeter, but also between the buildings and green spaces. Their Rider’s Bay, which is located at the Central Garden, was launched on July 5 to cater to the cycling community. It features green-colored bike racks, where bikers can park their rides for free.

Bonifacio High Street - Central Square

5th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City

Bonifacio Global City is one of the most bike-friendly spots in Metro Manila; and 5th Avenue, which is right in front of Bonifacio High Street’s Central Square, is one of its most bike-friendly streets. My Street High Street, as the campaign is called, promotes car-free weekends so that the public can ride their bike without having to worry about weaving through traffic jams. Colorful bike racks are also installed all over the area. And in case you don’t have your own wheels, BGC partnered with Moovr PH—touted as the country's first-ever bike and scooter sharing app—so you can go around the designated service area on a bike.

Lucky Chinatown

At Lucky Chinatown, you don't even have to think about where to leave your bikes if you want to eat at the mall. Their outdoor setup called Bike and Bite can be found along Chinatown Walk. This area has tables where you can park your bike and sit on your saddle while enjoying Asian dishes. They also have bike racks for free use on a first-come, first-served basis near the main entrance.

SM City Marikina

SM Marikina is one of the few malls where shoppers can carry their folded bikes inside the mall premises. The mall entrances even have huge stickers to remind everyone of this convenient policy. Free bike parking is available at the main entrance and upper parking level, both of which are covered spaces so you don't have to worry about your bike getting wet when it rains. The mall's perimeter also has bike lanes.
