When you can’t choose between classic and modern, Manam’s got your back. Sentro 1771
Calling themselves the first in modern Filipino cuisine, Sentro 1771 has made quite the name for itself since first opening their doors in 2002. With signatures like the Corned Beef Sinigang (P682), Rated GG (P416) a.k.a. galunggong fillets, and Adobo Flakes Pasta (P400), they give you a novel way to relish in Filipino flavors without losing sense of their identity. Named after (and established as a tribute to) Filipino diplomat, statesman, soldier, and author Carlos P. Romulo, Romulo Cafe is home to some of the best Filipino eats around that have a home-style charm to them and are made with great-quality ingredients. Just some of their signatures is the Lola Virginia’s Chicken Relleno (P868/half chicken) by Carlos’ wife Virginia, Tito Greg’s Kare-Kare (P678) that’s got oxtail and tripe in a rich peanut sauce, and the Flying Tilapia (P478) or deep-fried tilapia served with chili-garlic, honey-bagoong, and soy-vinegar sauces. Sarsa
Helmed by Chef JP Anglo, Sarsa is known for their playful approach to Negrense cuisine that still preserves the telltale flavors of tradition. Their delivery and takeout menu includes good-for-sharing portions of essentials like the the Chicken Inasal (P800/four to five pieces) and Batchoy Special (P680/good for three to four); you’ll want to save room for their more inventive dishes too, like the Sinigang Chicken Wings (P490/six pieces), Kansipanada with Batwan Gravy (P750/box of eight), and Inasal Sisig Pancit Canton (starts at P750/bilao good for three to five). Dining in at XO 46 Heritage Bistro is an experience, as they pay tribute to Filipino culture in almost every aspect—from the Hispanic-esque interiors to the way the servers interact with you in pure Filipino. You can’t quite get that delivered, but you can at least get your fill of their signature Filipino eats that cover the different regions. Got the hankering for Ilocano fare? Get your fix from Quezon City spot Victorino’s, which serves some of the best versions in the Metro. The Ilocos Best (P640)—a platter that includes bagnet and assorted longganisa—is a great way to taste the signatures of the province, as is their take on the Ilocos classic dish of pork tenderloin and liver called Igado (P420). You can always balance out these dishes’ richness with the Dinengdeng (P270) or boiled vegetables with bagoong and fish. Just give them a call to place an order.

This award-winning restaurant is best known for their superb and contemporary takes on Filipino, which is best experienced through their tasting menu. This sadly can’t be delivered, but Toyo Eatery also has special bilao dishes that are made for pickup. These include the Pancit Espesyal (P1,500/10 inches, P2,900/16 inches), BBQ Silog (P1,500/10 inches, P2,900/16 inches), and Crab Silog (P1,950/10 inches, P3,800/16 inches) bilao, which—in true Filipino fashion—are made to be shared.
