(SPOT.ph) With COVID-19 still raging in the Philippines, local government units are rolling out vaccines as fast as they can. Taguig, for their part, is opening mega vaccination centers in malls and deploying mobile vaccination buses in residential areas in the city. And during the rollout of more than 7,000 Pfizer vaccines at Lakeshore Mega Vaccination Hub on May 13, World Health Organization country representative Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe spoke highly of the local government unit's "efficient" COVID-19 vaccination rollout.

He also lauded Taguig's "extensive preparation and attention to detail" in the planning and execution of their COVID vaccination program. "We are encouraged by what we see. We are very happy to report that to our COVAX partners as we move towards mobilizing additional vaccines for the Philippines," Abeyasinghe added.

As of writing, Taguig City has three mega vaccination hubs located at Lakeshore, Barangay Lower Bicutan; Vista Mall, Barangay Calzada; and SM Aura in Bonifacio Global City. They also have four community vaccination centers at RP Cruz Elementary School, Maharlika Elementary School, EM’s Signal Village Elementary School, and Western Bicutan National High School. Three mobile vaccination buses were rolled out on April 16. The Taguig City Health Office also conducted a series of COVID-19 vaccination training seminars in January in preparation for the city's vaccination rollout plan.

In a statement released on May 17, Mayor Lino Cayetano said they're "now vaccinating around 4,000 people a day, a sharp increase from the last few weeks." Their target waiting time is between 45 and 90 minutes for each patient, and looking to increase their daily capacity to 5,000 with the opening of two more hubs.

"At 5,000 vaccinations a day, we can vaccinate all Taguigeños with two doses by December this year. We will continue to increase capacity so we can hit our targets earlier," the mayor said.
