(SPOT.ph) It's been three weeks since the first community pantry was set up along Maginhawa Street in Quezon City, and we've seen the different ways that Filipinos can help one another. Some have put up pantries for stray cats and dogs, others prioritized medicine and PPEs, and some focused on giving away free books. In Barangay 583 in Sampaloc, Manila, a Sangguniang Kabataan kagawad is offering free cakes to her neighbors.

"As I celebrate my 24th birthday, I feel so blessed to share my small token of appreciation to my fellow kabarangay. Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng nagtiwala at patuloy na nagtitiwala sa aking small business," posted Mae Pascua on Facebook on May 3. She also runs Mimey’s Pastries, which sells customized cakes and pastries.

Pascua baked more than 100 cupcakes of different flavors and laid them out on a table, community-pantry style. But instead of the usual mantra, "Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan," her posters had the humorous "Kumuha ayon sa blood sugar level." There were slices of dark chocolate cake and chocolate caramel cake, as well as banana caramel cupcakes and chocolate cupcakes.

Barangay 583 Sangguniang Kabataan's community pantry is now on day 11. While Pascua confirmed that the cake community pantry was only for her birthday, her group is still giving away free groceries, fruits, and vegetables to their barangay.
