(SPOT.ph) Following months of closure in 2020, a small number of hotels in the Phlippine capital reopened in January only to be forced to close again amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in March. And so it is with a sigh of relief for tourism stakeholders that 13 Metro Manila staycation hotels are now allowed to accept guests coming from NCR Plus, which includes the nearby provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal.

The Department of Tourism released Advisory No. 5 s. 2021 on the Operational Guidelines for Accommodation Establishments, which is effective until May 31. Only those with a "Certificate of Authority to Operate as Staycation Hotel" can reopen, and it's emphasized that they're not operating as COVID-19 quarantine facilities. Staycation guests must not be below 18 or above 65 years old.

The 13 Metro Manila staycation hotels that are now back in business are:

  • Grand Hyatt Manila
  • Okada Manila Hotel
  • Shangri-la at the Fort
  • Nobu Hotel (open since May 17)
  • Joy Nostalg Hotel and Suites Manila (open since May 17)
  • EDSA Shangri-la Manila
  • Solaire Resort
  • Hyatt Regency (open since May 17)
  • Nuwa Hotel (open since May 17)
  • The Peninsula Manila (opening on May 24)
  • Aruga by Rockwell (open since May 17)
  • Sheraton Manila Hotel
  • Hilton Manila

"While the Inter-Agency Task Force allowed our request to permit leisure travel under the current quarantine condition, we would like to remind everyone that the health and safety of our guests and tourism workers remain the utmost priority. These staycation hotels, all of which are star-rated, have the capacity and have been inspected and oriented on the new normal protocols to ensure this,” Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said in a statement.
