The Hilarious "Bacon 'Yan" King of Deadpan Is Back And This Time It's Dramatic

(SPOT.ph) Move over, MMK, there's a new unfolding drama to keep tabs on. Danes Cheese has just dropped an excellent follow-up to their hilarious pun-y ads from 2020. Remember that half-human, half-cheese (with bacon) creature that surprisingly managed to make us laugh during the absolute hellhole that was 2020? Well, the deadpan king of "Bacon 'Yan" is back. And things have just gotten really dramatic.

The cheese brand posted a follow-up commercial on Friday, May 28—and the human-bacon-cheese block's tattoo even plays a very important factor. We lay it down blow-by-blow below.

On the list of 2021's best Filipino commercials: Danes Cheese's "Bacon 'Yan" follow-up

It starts off with everyone's fave deadpan cheese just loading some groceries—when he spots something...strange.

No, three! And they're somehow all unexpectedly in this grocery store parking lot! Yes, this makes sense.

And in walks the erm, well they must be his parents. Well, this does seem more logical then Cow & Chicken's parentage.

Why does he have a nametag and tie? Does this mean the other characters are technically naked? Most importantly, how dare he!

And a negative 1 million score for decent human-being skills for you, sir.

So, what were they thinking?

Have you ever seen a more, erm, creative way to introduce flavored cheese? Danes knows how to get it done. And behind the wack commercials are yup, GIGIL ad agency (Read: those RC Cola commercials and more).

Best part? This is just the first drop from the Danes Cheese family reunion saga. GIGIL is promising an entire Danes Cheese Cinematic Universe—which is great because we need Herb & Garlic, Chili Cheese, and Sweet & Creamy Cheese to get closure from their father. Who knew cheese could be so adulterous, and such a terrible dad?

"Natawa kami" said Marlei Conserman-Bahoyan, assistant vice president of the company behind Danes Cheese as to why they greenlighted "Bacon 'Yan" guy. "A simple reason but at the heart of it, we feel that it can connect to our target consumers. Humor is something that we Filipinos are proud to have no matter how tough our situation is," they added. It being witty and innovative was also an important factor for them, as they felt that those values reflected their brand well—especially as they are the company that "launched the first-ever flavored cheese blocks in the country," according to Janna Ong, commercial manager.

When the first slew of commercials dropped, GIGIL had no idea what was coming, shared Jeano Cruz, head of social. "We were lucky we had that [tattoo] joke in the first Danes Cheese series back in 2020. It paid off, now we have the whole Danes Cheese cinematic universe ahead of us."

Plus, fun-fact: Herb & Garlic is even played by Zion de la Peña, one of GIGIL's writers. He just looked so much like the OG "Bacon 'Yan" guy that they they had to cast him as a sibling. We'll keep watch for when "part two" happens!
