(SPOT.ph) If you’re thinking of moving out and getting your own place, chances are, a studio unit in a good location is on top of your list of living options. The most affordable unit type in any condo development is a studio. It has a reputation of being teeny-tiny, often likened to a shoebox with limited space—but this has changed over the years.

While there are still studio units that measure 13 square meters, some developers are leveling it up by offering bigger unit cuts—perfect if you have a ton of belongings, like living with a pet, or would just want some extra floor space. Depending on how you want to personalize it, a studio can also be transformed into a one-bedroom home with the right partitions. It helps to have a spacious unit to work with, of course. To help you make the right choice, we’ve compared the sizes of the studio units available at some of the ready-for-occupancy and preselling properties in the Metro today. We’ve noted the prices, too, so you can make a fair comparison.

Pioneer Street, Mandaluyong City
Studio unit: 20.69 square meters (with balcony)
Price point: P5.3 million

A condo at Light 2 Residences also puts you in the center of the city, with its convenient location near EDSA. Shopping for essentials wouldn’t be such a chore, either, as the nearest mall is only an elevator ride away. Contrary to popular belief, there are still so many things you can do in a studio unit that measures 20 square meters. Aside from sticking to a spic-and-span aesthetic, you can also invest in customized furniture pieces.

Bagong Ilog, Pasig City
Studio unit: 22 to 29 square meters
Price point: P3.9 million to P4.7 million

As its name suggests, a home at SYNC means getting an address that’s in sync with key establishments like hospitals, schools, and malls. If you’re the type who loves living close to other cities, a unit puts you in close proximity to Bonifacio Global City, Ortigas, and Kapitolyo. With this unit size, you can still define areas using low partitions such as mini shelves or seating pieces like a sofa. It’s a must to keep the busy areas like the cooking and dining nooks separate from your sleeping space.

Taguig is fast becoming one of the coveted addresses in the Metro—making this studio a good buy. Having a place at Arca South brings you closer to the best of what Bonifacio Global City has to offer, too. You can make the most of the 28-square meter unit by keeping it well-lit and well-ventilated—plantitos and plantitas can help make the space more airy and bright.

Aurora Boulevard, Barangay Loyola Heights, Quezon City
Studio unit: 27 to 29 square meters
Price points: P7 million to P7.2 million

A studio unit at The Arton comes with the prestige of living on a hill and the perks of having access to vast open spaces. It's a bit pricier for its size, but having The Arton as your address brings the best of Katipunan and other points of interest within Quezon City closer to home, too. Homebodies will also find a lot to enjoy aside from the open spaces as key amenities include a fitness gym, swimming pools, and a multipurpose court.

One Oasis Ortigas by Filinvest Land

Price point: To be discussed with sales agent

Curious about the size range? Some developers offer studio units at varying sizes depending on its location—some are corner units or have balconies, hence the extra square meters for this property. Go for the bigger cut, if possible, so you have a bit of a leeway in terms of designing your unit. As a One Oasis resident, you can explore indoor and outdoor amenities, including open spaces take up 60 percent of community. There’s a jogging path, a tree park, a playpark, and cascading water features that add to its serene vibe.
