(SPOT.ph) The community pantry, a movement started by Patricia Non in Maginhawa, has now spread across various provinces all over the Philippines. The goal is to provide food and essentials for disadvantaged communities who are still struggling with rising unemployment and slow disbursement of aid amid the pandemic. This also extends to helping out pet owners who need assistance in feeding their furry friends, as highlighted by the Philippine Animal Welfare Society in Quezon City. In Makati City, a local community pantry is dedicated to feeding stray cats and dogs.

In a Facebook postAvien Rosete showed photos of their set-up with trays filled with cat and dog food. "H'wag natin kalimutan na bahagi rin sila ng ating community," she said. There's also a container of water, a welcome relief for the animals especially in this heat.

Aside from donating to the "community paw-ntry" or setting one up, Rosete suggested other ways to help stray cats and dogs:

  • Spay or neuter your pets
  • Adopt rescued strays from pounds and animal welfare organizations
  • Put out a feeding area for strays near your home
  • Collaborate with your barangay or local government unit to promote animal welfare
  • Look for potential adopters of strays
  • Be responsible pet owners

If you're willing to donate pet food, you can drop off your donation at 107 Kalayaan Avenue, Makati City (near Abalos-Casas Dental Clinic). You can also order online through Purrky Pets Khommunity and have it delivered to the community paw-ntry.
