(SPOT.ph) To boost Taguig City's vaccination rollout, the local government deployed their Mobile Vaccination Bus on Friday, April 16. The pop-up vaccination center is expected to roll out in various residential areas within the city in the next three days.
At present, Taguig City has three mega vaccination hubs located at Lakeshore, Barangay Lower Bicutan; Vista Mall, Barangay Calzada; and SM Aura in Bonifacio Global City. They also have four community vaccination centers at RP Cruz Elementary School, Maharlika Elementary School, EM’s Signal Village Elementary School, and Western Bicutan National High School.
As of April 15, the city has vaccinated 20,292 residents, including health workers, senior citizens, and non-senior with comorbidities. As of April 2, they have inoculated up to 90% of those in the A1 category; and as of Thursday, up to 1,068 of 9,503 frontliners have received their second dose.
In January, Taguig opened their own fully automated cold storage facility in Bagumbayan Village to accommodate their vaccine procurement as well as those of neighboring cities. They committed to allocate up to P1 billion to ensure that their one million residents would be vaccinated for free. Taguig signed a deal with biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, but this additional order has yet to arrive. Like most local government units, the city is using their alloted supply from the national government.
Food and Drug Administration director-general Eric Domingo told Teleradyo on April 16 that the Philippine government is struggling to secure vaccine supply.
Only two vaccine brands are currently available in the Philippines: AstraZeneca and SinoVac's CoronaVac. An initial 525,600 AstraZeneca doses arrived in the country on March 4 and 7, which were all donated by European countries through COVAX. Almost all of these were administered to senior citizens as part of their first dose.
The first two shipments of CoronaVac, totaling one million doses, were donated by the Chinese government. The first delivery of one million SinoVac vaccines fully paid for by the Philippine government arrived in the country on March 29.
