(SPOT.ph) With less than a year to the 2022 Winter Olympics in China, Filipino athletes are spending their days training and attending international competitions to qualify for the upcoming winter multi-sport event. Filipino figure skater Michael Christian Martinez is one of them, and he has taken to social media to raise funds for his Olympics journey.

Martinez's team launched the fundraising campaign "Michael Martinez - Road to 2022 Winter Olympics," which would pay for his training expenses since he does not have a sponsor. He is currently in New Jersey with his coach Nikolai Morozov to prepare for the 2021 Nebelhorn Trophy, which is happening from September 22 to 25 in Germany.

Martinez is the first figure skater from Southeast Asia to compete in the Olympics. He first participated at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where he was the only Filipino athlete; then went on to compete at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. Martinez won the silver medal at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur.

To help Martinez in his Olympic bid, you can visit his GoFundMe page or send money via GCash. You can also follow his Facebook page.
