The capital city of Manila will soon have its own COVID-19 field hospital.
Top city officials led by Mayor Isko Moreno on Tuesday held a groundbreaking ceremony of the Manila COVID-19 Field Hospital, which would soon cater to patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 symptoms.
Located within Rizal Park, it will have a 336-bed capacity and is expected to be built within 60 days, the city government said. Operations of the hospital will not be limited to residents of Manila City, Moreno said.
"Lahat ay welcome rito. Nobody will be left behind," Moreno said.
Once operational, the COVID-19 Field Hospital is expected to unburden overwhelmed hospitals in Manila of mild and moderate virus cases to attend to severe ones.
Hospitals in and around Metro Manila have been overwhelmed with a surge in COVID-19 cases that have prompted the revival of strict quarantine protocols.
