(SPOT.ph) Beloved fantasy drama Game of Thrones ended in 2019 after eight compelling seasons. And while most fans have already recovered from the epic series ender and moved on with their lives, there are others who were just really excited at the possibility of an animated drama series as reported by Deadline in January. It looks like Game of Thrones will continue to be the talk of the town for years to come as a stage play is already in the works. The play is slated for a 2023 debut.
According to a report by Playbill, the theatrical adaptation of George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones will be written by Lungs and Every Brilliant Thing playwright Duncan MacMillan and directed by Dominic Cooke (former Artistic Director of the Royal Court Theatre in London). The project will be produced by Simon Painter, Tim Lawson, and Jonathan Sanford, who are hoping to bring the stage play to Broadway, West End, and other theaters around the world.
In a statement, Martin said: "The seeds of war are often planted in times of peace. Few in Westeros knew the carnage to come when highborn and smallfolk alike gathered at Harrenhal to watch the finest knights of the realm compete in a great tourney, during the Year of the False Spring. It is a tourney oft referred during HBO’s Game of Thrones, and in my novels, A Song of Ice & Fire. And now, at last, we can tell the whole story...on the stage."
