Your Car's Certificate of Registration Might Look Different Next Time You Register

Motorists looking to renew their Land Transportation Office registration in the near future might be in for a little surprise as the agency has revamped its certificate of registration, making changes to the document's appearance and the information it contains.

The most obvious change? The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has increased the size of the certificate of registration (CR), acknowledging that its current dimensions make it easy to misplace and difficult to read. The larger document will be able to accommodate more information, too.

"A prominent feature of the new CR is its larger size purposely to provide enough space for the inclusion of additional significant vehicle information and in order to increase the font size to make details therein easily readable," reads an LTO memorandum signed by agency head Edgar Galvante regarding the new CR.

"In addition, the enlarged CR shall make it at par with certificates issued by other government agencies and may help reduce instances of request for duplicate CR considering that the current size is susceptible of being misplaced.

Some pieces of required information have been ditched to simplify the CR. These include "denomination," which has been replaced by "vehicle type," and "body number," which was removed since the CR already states a vehicle's engine and chassis number.
