(SPOT.ph) Remember reading the Terms & Conditions when you signed up for a Netflix subscription? Well, it looks like Netflix may be clamping down on folks who aren't exactly compliant to the terms: A new feature is trying to get people to stop sharing passwords with non-household members, a.k.a. sharing a single account—a thing subscribers technically agreed not to do..

Some users have reportedly received a prompt while on the popular streaming platform. "If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching," says the message, with the option to verify the account or start your own free trial. Users can click on the "verify later" button and continue watching for a few times after receiving the prompt—until eventually they are required to verify or open up their own account, Reuters reported.

Will Netflix Password Sharing Be a Thing of the Past?

SPOT.ph reached out to Netflix's reps in the Philippines and were told through a spokesperson: "This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so." So far, this is the first time users have experienced this level of concrete action against sharing accounts. There is a limit to how many devices can stream at the same time depending on your plan but there's no limit to how far apart those devices can be (Read: same house or not)!  The prompt is reported to be limited to TVs.

The Netflix terms do state that the service "may not be shared with individuals beyond your household." Sharing passwords between family members and friends is nothing new, but it looks like Netflix, as well as other streaming platforms, are gearing up their security as the industry continues to grow.
